From Coleman National Fish Hatchery

Did you know the Sacramento River is the only river that supports four distinct runs of Chinook salmon? Pictured here are a fall, late-fall, winter and spring Chinook captured in a rotary screw trap near Red Bluff by employees at our Red Bluff FWO.

Runs of Chinook are named for when they enter freshwater, not when they spawn. For example, our winter Chinook salmon enter freshwater from the ocean during the winter months, but do not spawn until May-July.
