Eric Castro and Rich Alcantar dropshot a Camanche victory

IONE Ca. - It is a mystery to all why this year, Lake Camanche seemed to be very stingy in terms of delivering big limits for anglers fishing the 3rd event of the 2019 Future Pro Tour - Presented by Gone Fishin Marine.

For in last year’s event, the scales were “rockin” as it took a limit over 18 pounds just to make the top 20, and over 20 pounds just to cut a check.

And while it would be safe to say that last weekend’s dramatic change in the weather played a big part in the “stingy bite” scenario, you should never count out FPT veteran anglers like Eric Castro and partner Richard Alcantar, who displayed their ability to adapt to changing weather, and put together a 5-fish limit that weighed 17.42 pounds, to narrowly edge out a tough field of competitors, and score their very first Future Pro Tour title.

“Having fished the Future Pro Tour for 12 years or so, we have held our own, but always dreamed of putting it all together on game day and finally winning one of these things”, noted Eric, visibly excited. We had a limit by 10:30 and culled at least 4 to 5 times throughout the day. We were using Yamamoto plastics, and our biggest fish (a 6.83 pounder) came on a dropshot rig at almost the last cast of the day – on a main body point”, he added.

Eric’s partner Richard, made note that as the wind picked up, their Minn Kota Ultrex trolling motor – using the “Spot Lock” feature, quickly became the most valuable piece of equipment they had on board, as it held them firmly in place so they could fish plastics very slowly on the bottom.

Eric and Rich earned $3,260 dollars, and two custom trophies for their well-deserved and long overdue victory…. congratulations!

Next up: it’s delta time!

And time for the FPT’s annual “Delta Summer Shootout” event (June 1-2nd), which is a regular season, two-day event designed to give FPT anglers the opportunity to take advantage of the delta’s late evening bite (12 noon to 6pm – on day 1), and it’s early morning bite (5:30am to Noon – on day 2), creating for them a “best of both bites” scenario!

Registration will begin on Saturday at 8am, and from 9 to 11am, we will host a delicious FREE breakfast – presented by Gone Fishin Marine, for all participating anglers to enjoy!

During that time, some of the west’s top delta pros will be on hand to provide valuable tips that will help you preparing for delta competition – and perhaps a trip to the winner’s circle!

Hope to see you there!
