Fish finder to battery

Hello,

I am installing two new Lowrance units a hook2 triple shot at the wheel and a split shot at the TM. I was wondering if anyone has suggestion on if I should wire both to the crank battery or my TM batteries?

Any help or advise would be appreciated.

Never on TM batteries

The correct way is to add another battery for 'house' or 'electronics' loads.
It is possible to pull clean power from either the cranking bat or the TM bat bank by utilizing a DC-DC Converter. The downside is killing either of those banks and being without power to get to the weigh-in on time.
All that being said; with today's very small and powerful jump-start paks, you could always get the main started and make weigh-in.

My vote...….another battery.

To me, adding another deep cycle battery for both your electronics and your livewell pump, so you can run it all day without losing power, is the smart play.
I have a 17 1/2' boat, and there is room for a fourth battery in it.

"Another battery" is a good idea but most people don't have room for another battery in the back of their boat. Do what I did and change out your old 2 stroke for a 4 stroke. This way the oil tank is removed and now you have room for the additional battery. I placed a second battery in the spot vacated by the oil tank and hooked it up to the existing cranking battery, hot to hot and ground to ground. This way I still have 12 volts but twice the storage of available energy. It has worked great. BTW, the Yamaha SHO is far superior than my old Evinrude 2 stroke I used to have.
