Shore Fishing - Camper Gear
We recently purchased a used 5th-wheel camper, and I want to keep a simple, fairly cheep, easy to pack in/out shore fishing setup in the camper. Picked up a cheap $30 rod/reel combo and small Plano tackle bag. Most of the time, I’ll also be bringing my three year old boy with me, as he also loves to fish. Aside from maybe a bucket, cooler, and rod holder stake, what else should I be packing to maybe catch a few fish (no particular species in mind) to bring back to the camper for cleaning? Looking to keep things as simple as possible and not carry too much crap around.

Hey Randy,
For Rods i think you will find that Abu Garcia will have you covered on a good quality spinning rod combo that wont break the bank.
I think it's great that you are introducing your family to the outdoors. I think a staple for many bass would be a Berkley Power Bait General wacky rigged (hooked in the middle) 1/0 hook. This is a plastic worm with Berkley's PowerBait Forumula.
For lakes that have trout you cant beat a slide sinker, swivel and small treble hook with Berkley's power bait Eggs.
For pan fish such as crappie or blue gill - a bobber, and a crappie fly or Berkley's Crappie Nibblers
I have also found that a Single tail grub like a Kalin's in Salt n Pepper or Blue Pearl catch a variety of species.
Cat Fish - Slide Sinker, 1-2/0 hook, some stink bait and soak it.
So no you dont need a kitchen sink, some various size hooks, slide sinkers, bobbers and Bait targeted to your species and you can be off fishing.

Word on the street is that because of the pandemic boat, fishing tackle and RV sales are way up. Gun sales are up too but that may be more for political reasons
Re: Shore Fishing - Camper Gear
We must be on different streets, i am hearing through the industry that tackle sales are down and supply chain has had issues. It is great to hear and see so many more people going camping this year and introducing their families to the outdoors. I have seen a strong uptick in camping as vacation this year. Let's hope the passion for the outdoors continues to grow through people like Randy and his family looking to relax, get some fresh air and have a shore fry.monte300 wrote:Word on the street is that because of the pandemic boat, fishing tackle and RV sales are way up.
