Active Target Fix for Yellow Wire

Post by Marc »

A new software update is available that fixes the yellow wire function of the Active Target. Now it will both turn on and turn off the module when connected to an accessory switch. See how to update the AT in this video:

Do you have to have it hooked up to an Accessory switch, or will it turn off when you turn the trolling motor unit off? Was wondering Why my batteries were draining so fast. Thx

Active Target has nothing to do with the trolling motor; and it is not hooked to that circuit so it wouldn't run down your trolling motor batteries. Active Target is connected to your starting battery. Yes, you do want to use an accessory switch for the yellow wire so you can turn it off when not used, and save your starting battery power. Hope that helps.

I ran #10 wire from my starting battery directly to the active target red & black wires. I tied the yellow wire from the active target to the yellow wire on my HDS-12 Live unit. Doesn’t matter if you tie into the bow or console unit with the yellow wire. Make sure you do the latest software update for the transducer.

That will work, but realize that you will not be able to turn off the Active Target to save battery power without also having to turn off your HDS unit. If you wire the yellow wire to an accessory switch, you can independently power on or off the Active Target irrespective of your HDS units.

Thx guys!
I guess my question is. When I do the update, to my bow unit. Will the active target module turn off. When I turn the bow graph off? Or will it only work if It hook up to a accessory switch? This stuff is way to confusing for an old fart! Thx!!

You need to run your yellow wire from the active target module power cable to the accessory switch. This will wake up the transducer when you turn the accessory switch on. It will also turn off the transducer when you turn the accessory switch off, assuming that you installed the latest transducer update. Run your red and black wires directly to your battery.
