ODFW, other state agencies and the Oregon State Legislature are trying to make it easier for Active Military members and Veterans to get outdoors.
Beginning next year, a new program will launch for Veterans thanks to SB 320, a bill developed by Association of Northwest Steelheaders and passed by the 2021 Oregon State legislature. Nonprofits like NW Steelheaders, Warfighter Outfitters and others that are currently serving Veterans will be able to receive free fishing and shellfish permits for participants in their excursions.
In thanks for their service, ODFW also currently offers special benefits to Veterans and Active Military including free licenses to resident Disabled Veterans and a waterfowl hunting day set aside exclusively for Veterans and Active Military each year (Feb. 5, 2022 this season).
