Post by Nicholas H. »

Hello all, I just wanted to let you know that Sunline Japan has allowed 2 shipments per year of their Sunline Japan Shooter fluorocarbon lines to be brought over to the US one is now and the other is the Bass-A-Thon event in November and ONLY by one tackle store. The store is Angler's Marine in Anaheim, CA, please give them a call at 714-666-BOAT(2628). Ask for John and let him know Nicholas sent you there! They are great people to deal with and will be happy to ship your orders out right away to anywhere in the US! This is INCREDIBLE line and VERY Dificult to get, it will sell fast! The 4.5lb, yes that is to read 4 and a half pound test in the Sunline Shooter Invisible is unbelievable drop shot line!

714.666.2628

PS-They are the only LEGAL seller of this Japanese product of Sunline. Others might have it, but I will say they are buying it in Japan from stores and bringing it over here, but that's all about to change

Congrats to Anglers Marine for being the only legit dealer.
All of you know this is the camo line that some of the Castaic sticks are trying to keep quiet.

What have they done to imporve the memory of the line when using it on a spinning reel? I liked it, its strong as can be but it made me want to off myself when I put it on a spinning reel. Talk about frustrating.

Cool. I know some guys rave about the stuff (Sunline in general) including Nick, and his brothers Adam and Andrew and his pops. I think a lot of people think its the greatest, then myself and a few other people I know have had miserable experiences with it.

Nick could sell me on it again I'm sure :).

It has been a popular line in the states for a while. I have had many requests by people all over to send them Sunline and when I can I do.

I dont use it but my nonboater did at the Super 3 Day open on the last day and he broke a very nice one off at the boat when his line snapped. I have heard of this before but I only used the line once so I dont have much experience with it.

sounds like when its gone its gone since there is only two shipments a year. I hope people dont get too attached to it!

Kellen- There isn't a thing that needs to be fixed at all with Sunline as it pertains to spinning reels. For one, your using the wrong brand (LOL Shimano) of spinning reels, totally kidding, although, they are not as good with fluorocarbon lines as Daiwas are! Secondly, how are you spooling it onto your spinning reels? You CANNOT just straight wind it on like you would with a baitcasting reel. Thirdly, aren't you, my 2 brothers and my father sponsored by the same Line company (and it aint Sunline)? Glad to see you trying Sunline, that tells me something. I know my brothers and father also love the Sunline product, but I will let them speak for themselves here. Fourthly (is that even a word? LOL), Luke had no problems with the FC Sniper on Spinning reels in the Classic nor does Aaron Martens. It's about how you spool the line on your reels. We all know how much stiffer fluorocarbon lines are compared to co-polymers and traditional monos. That's part of fluorocarbons, being stiffer they are much more abrasion resistant and have less stretch, thus making fluorocarbons MUCH more sensitive as well.

Kevin (aka "Hollywood")- We all know there's no such thing as a "perfect" line, but Sunline is as close as it gets. You're sponsored by a competitor of Sunline's in Japan (Evergreen) that has their line manufactured by another company (Toray) correct? Everyone breaks fish off with whatever lines they use, it's just something that happens in fishing.

Rick & Kyle- 20 Tournaments on DVL? Hmmm.... Great job guys keep up the great work!

Kellen,
You might try stretching your Sunline before you go fishing. Tie it off to something, let out a cast and a half, and put a good, long (ten second) stretch on it. Stretch it until it doesn't stretch any more, when it feels like a fish that's about to break off.
And use KVD line conditioner.

Nick,

I never said anything bad about Sunline other than I have seen it snap on more than one fish during one outing. It might of been a bad batch, a knick in a few places I dont know. All I know is it cost me over 2 Million Yen, and it wasnt even on my reels, HA....

Yes I am sponsored by BASS Seil and yes you are correct on Toray manufactoring it for Evergreen. I never brought that into the picture. I just said I have used Sunline once. I have been using Siel since 2000 when I first signed a deal with Evergreen when I was fishing B.A.S.S. It is good stuff but I am not on here promoting it nor trying to get people to use it.

I was just stating what I heard and have seen from people. I can't say it happened to me becuase I havent used it for more than one fishing session which I didnt have any problems.

You are correct it is fishing and it is line, nobody or thing is perfect. I was just adding a comment hope you didnt take it negative. Thats one reason I havent been posting much in the past few years. Maybe Hibernation is needed again.]

I've heard that there are really very few fishing line manufacturers, and that those few make most of the "name" line for the different brands.
Is that true?

Man, that's weird. Does that mean all fluoro is the same? Are all lines labeled flouro, as opposed to copolymer, 100% flouro? How can we tell the difference?
And who makes "Transition"? Same factory?

You would be surprised. Did you know many of the rods you use today are all made in the same factory in China, Thailand and Tiawan?..... :-)

I think each company has there own specs and the factory goes by them. Just like all the rods made in China. The rods from China are made in just a couple of factories.

You are correct Ray. I have been to one of the factories many years ago and you would be surprised who was having rods made there. Some Japanese companies, some american.

There are some companies in Japan that actually have there rods made here, Megabass, Evergreen are the two that come to mind plus a few others!

I think Evola is also made in Japan.
So many rods are made in China now it is discusting.
The workmanship is lousy. The guides are never lined up true and the paint is always globbed on and the clear coat is bubbled.
I know a lot of people are happy with there rods and they should be. A lot of people don't look at a rod as closely as I do though. I am very tough on the rod companies today as I have seen many of the better rods out on the market and most are of terrible quality.
Sorry all you Loomis fans but maybe you should look at your rods closely and you will see all the flaws. Guides not all lined up straight bubbles in the clear coat. Guides not where they should be as far as the blank is concerned. etc.etc.etc.
I could go on and on but I am going to stop because I am sure I have offended some people already.

Have you seen the Evola rods?
Also have you seen the Wade Rods?
Wade used to make some rods that were sold in Japan.
Mostly swimbair rods for another label. They were awesome. I can't remember the rods they were sold by an american who lives overthere in Japan. Maybe Kevin knows who I am talking about.

In my opinion and I have a lot of experiences with Japanese products as I have been dealing with the Japanese tackle companies before most of you have even seen there products.

Megabass is a superior rod to most companies. I have had them given to me by many people and have used them and still have a few that are collecting dust. I have had two different deals with Evergreen, one while fishing B.A.S.S. and another 3 years later while fishing in Japan.

If I say how good Evergreen is nobody will believe me because people will say I just say that because I am on there staff. That doesnt matter to me since no one in America has access to them nor can they buy them.

My opinion is evergreen is lighter, more sensitive then the megabass line up and far more lighter and sensitive then Evola and Wade. I wouldnt even classify wade in the same class as Evergreen or Megabass.

Evergreen is the most popular and sought after rods in Japan. There is a reason why you can't get them in America.

I would put both Megabass and Evergreen way above Loomis, Evola, Wade and the Techna AV's.

I know of the guy Ray is talking about here in Japan. Last I heard his shop is closed and he went back to the USA. He is the brother of Cher who used to run UMAXCO but last I heard they are shut down as well. This last paragraph is not factual info, just what I heard!

This is too long already, we are now in Shanghai, time to go out and go shopping!

I think for some reason his name was Captain Dave but I have been wrong many times so maybe I butchered it this time too....

I will ask some friends if they know if he is still around.

Have you used the rods from Norrie Tanabe? There called Norries Rod, they are not too bad but they are not on the light side.

Another popular rod here is called EDGE. Have you heard of them? They are on the cheap side for price as I think they are around 90bucks and they are light, sensitive. I have a few friends here on there pro staff and they like them a lot!

I did not know about the edge rods but I heard something about the Norrie rods.
Captain Dave was what he went by. I know he mostly threw swimbaits. I saw the rods that were made to sell in Japan and even fished with 1. Built a little different than most with a spiral guide set up. Soft tip but a little to heavy for me. I know he is a big guy so maybe it didn't matter to him.
I will have to do some looking on the internet again to find somemore good stuff to try. You may be getting another e mail from me soon.
I will be at I CAST so if I see anything interesting I will let you know and also see what I can get my hands on for you to try in Japan.

White Rhino, the Defier is a one color dark green 100% Nylon line, while the Shooter Metan is a 3 color (one color ever 35cm with a combination of Brown, Green and Dark Grey) 100% Fluorocarbon. Sunline Japan has only given authorization for Angler's Marine to carry this product. This was approached by Angler's Marine when Sunline Japan came to the states and walked into Angler's Marine and chatted with them, unfortunately, for now at least, Angler's Marine is THE ONLY place in the US that is purchasing this from Sunline. There are a couple of other places that are importing in from Japanese Distributors (Sorry, nothing I can do about that, soon to change though).
