freshwater jellyfish?

Post by mjr »

the last few years while fishing a small lake in the motherlode area, i saw what looked like jellyfish. they were everywhere! they were about the size of a quarter and i found them just about every place i fished. i frequent this lake quite often and only seem to see them in the fall. has anyone ever seen jellyfish in freshwater before? how the heck do they get there? could they harm the lake?

Hey Bones,

How in the heck did you sneak into the Pro Teen festivities and NOT introduce yourself to little ol' me?

Ive observed jellyfish in Bass Lake (inbetween Fresno and Yosemite) and have seen "brackish" jelly fish in suisun city. Both places they seem to appear in late summer and fall. I first saw them in bass lake in the mid 90s they dont seem to hurt any thing as we all know how bass lake is doing (refering to those two monster bass that were caught there last year on the gladiator swim bait by its designer).

Seems like Clear Lake has quite a few of these, especially around the slack water inside the marina where I keep my boat.

Was wondering if those were indeed jellyfish or some type or plant or algae or ??
