Bass Fishing - Golf Challenge - Who's up for it

Post by Gator »

This was discussed between interested parties at a recent tournament. It would be fun to combine a braggin rights fishing/golf tournament. The rules would be simple. Whatever your weight is (rounded up or down depending) would be your handicap for the afternoon tourney. Fish ffrom safe light til 1, then golf from 2:30ish til done. We can talk about a smail entry fee to make it more interesting or we can make it braggin rights only. Doesn't matter, let's have some fun. Let me know if you are interested and I can get the wheels turning on this as well. We can even discuss a two dayer, day one fishing day two golf. Just need to see what the interest is. Looking at Clearlake as a venue as there is a golf course within 10 miles of Konocti.

I'm in if you wait 1 month.

I suggest doing it up here. There are dozens of gold courses around Melones, Pedro, Tulloch, Camanche, and Hogan.

Theres Bethel Island Golf Course just before Russo's Marina and is very reasonable. Call Gene at the Hook, he knows more about the course than I do.

Actually thats an interesting idea

Fish first morning - poker that night.

Golf on Sunday morning.

Only thing is to figure out how to include the poker into the equation.

Bethel Island works for me. Give me some input people. Lets make this haoppen.

Two choices:

Fish first. Placement of tournament dictates chips for Poker.

Poker Saturday eve, winnings and placement determine handicap for golf

Golf Sunday morning for grand prize.

second idea:

Poker Friday night. Winnings determing blast order and lb handicap for:

Fishing Sat morning. Placement after tournament will determine golf handicap

Satruday afternoon hold a horseshoe tournament for bonus points.

Sunday morning Golf for the prize!

We have already been doing this the last few years and it is a blast! It started out with family and now we have new guys every year. We fish the morning at Los Banos Creek, Shoot the afternoon at Rooster Ranch (formerly Stevinson Sportsmans Club) and golf the next day at Stevinson Ranch GC. they have cottages and golf packages for about $100.00. Its a blast..... let me know if you need help setting it up or if you would like to join us.

ps; if you wanted golf and fishing the same day you could do the delta out of paradise point and golf out of Spanos.

I will keep your number! I have been getting bored with bass tournaments over the past few years. I think this is an awesome way to spice it up. Most tournaments, the only fun I had was hanging out after weigh in. It dawned on me to just show up for the weigh in and save the time and $$. Hopefully this takes off.

I already have a Handicap ! Haraguchi is his name!

19lbs 4oz= $19,400 in poker chips

and a 19.4 Hdcp

So if I shoot 74 I have a net.....54.6

I am all in !

So just to make it fair for you guys (  ) we can do a best ball twosome or a "two man scramble"....which I am sure it will be anyways .

Personally...fri. sat is best for me, Take care of the fam. on sundays! or even cram it all in on 1 day like the triathlons.....I'm up for horse shoes as well, As long as I get a knew partner   A matter of fact I'll take Dewayne...i've seen him in boots before..

Fishing is always good at Clearlake, Konocti harbor is right there next to the buckingham golf course......The Delta would draw a few people as well!.....I think we should have a circuit next year...in the summer......Clearlake, delta, shasta...

Leogrande has to hold the Golf club the right way!! He's use to holding other things the "wrong way" How can you swing a club cross handed?.....I think he got hit one to many times in the arena football league.....

Sounds interesting and fun.

Count me in, I don't care where, but when might put a stop to it. I've been looking for a reason to get my sticks out of the bag again. I hope you guys can work LONG Drive and closest to the pin and all that other good stuff in.

I know I don't stand a chance at beating Mr. Reese in a fishing event. I know he was Golf Pro, but I'm not scared

Jimmy... you better catch a lot of fish.. because I know I can take your money on the golf course!

I've got an itch to get my butt back out on the course again anyway! So count me in on this if it doesn't conflict with anything I have going on!

If its Golf and fishing the handicap thing should work... If its Golf-Fishing and Poker I suggest the following.

In each event...

1 point for 1st
2 points for 2nd
3 for third
etc..
etc..

So lets say Jimmy does the following

1st in fishing
3rd in Golf
12 in poker.

He has 16 total points... .Person with the lowest points wins! :)

I am sure we can come up with some awards.... I can have Jess our graphics guy do me a pretty cool... Poker Chip, Golf Ball, Bass design.. and we can make shirts for the top 3 guys... or the winner of each event and the overall champion... With the following on the back

2006 Golf-Poker-Bass Challenge
Poker Champion

2006 Golf-Poker-Bass Challenge
Bass Fishing Champion

2006 Golf-Poker-Bass Challenge
Golf Champion

2006 Golf-Poker-Bass Challenge
Overall Champion

It's just a fun thing anyway... so why not have some bragging rights for a year! :)

By the way Jimmy

I don't swing cross handed... I swing using the "claw" grip... I know Chris DiMarco only putts that way... but, I found I can hit my driver almost 150 yards... but, its pretty straight half the time!

Can we make it Speed Golf instead of regular golf? Now that would be hilarious. I know I couldn't make it two holes... Unfortunately, my idea of a workout these days is fishing for 8 hours without my butt seat!

Why not find a golf course that has bass in their lakes. Bring your favorite rod, reel, and bait with 15 minutes to fish. After 15 minutes deduct the total weight from your golf score. Then go play poker. I know of a few courses with lakes full of bass that would probably enjoy this type of tourament. They may even allow a friendly poker game in their sports bar.

Golf/Fishing, Great! Count me in. Poker - no!

Financially I can control expenditures with my 'handicaps'

in Golf (I fold by the 15th hole on a good round)

and

Fishing (can't stick a fish over 3 pounds in a ProAm)

But Poker? Dewayne and Jimmy would end up owning my house!

Clearlake - let's do it.

Re: Tom Leogrande.....claw grip?

Post by JimmyReese »

This claw grip has me shaking in my golfshoes! I hate to see your halloween outfit! I guess if I hit the ball 150 yards with my driver it would be called "speed golf" Better yet we could call it "rapid fire" in comparison to paint ball! When you said you shot in the 70s, was that for 9 holes? Just curious!

Re: Tom Leogrande.....claw grip?

Post by Guest »

ha ha ha..

You know it's not for 9 holes... and generally its the very low 70's or you'll see my pissy side! That's why I gave the game up for fishing.... I can have a bad day and I am only pissed for a day instead of a week!

Don't worry about my grip or swing.. just show up and bring your $10... or maybe you'll get lucky and win that $10 I took off you on your own lake last night!!

Damn, it's going to be hard spending that $10 bill I won off of you... it's the first $10 I have won from you.... probably the last $10 too - well, at least fishing!
