I'm trying to plan a trip to Clearlake this Summer and I'm wondering which month June, July or August) to choose. Just curious which month you guy's would choose if you were planning a Summer trip.

Come on up the last week of July and join yer fellow Nutcases for the Western Rally@Clear Lake. The Rally is the last weekend of July and the fishing is usually phenomenal!

mid-July through mid-August is an excellent timeframe IMO. Especially for numbers of fish. It can be VERY hot at this time so be sure to plan for that.

July and August should have a frog bite that is off the hook!!!!

Also a crank bite... and a punch bite too. Hell, anything will catch them in July and August... you can't go wrong!

Mid July through mid August definitely.

This past year we had 100 degree temps and 50+ fish days. Fish were biting just about everything (jigs, cranks, topwater, frogs, carolina rig, senko's, spinnerbait) and about 1/10th the cost of going to El Salto.

the new rules....

There will be no Topwater fishing, jig fishing, crankbait fishing, worm fishing, and oh yea, no FROG fishing....

They will be reserved for the tournament director and his wife.

we will make an exception and let you use little bits (yes I'm old).

Korny - That shouldn't be a problem. I won a 2 day club tournament using a Carolina rig during that time from the back of the boat (t-motor cable broke in practice). Although using small baits might definitely be the downfall as I was using 8" lizards and 10" Power worms catching the bigger fish. Anything smaller and the dinks were all over it.

dave is lyin to u guy muscadine is the worst color for CL dont buy any stick with watermelon.

i have over 200 bags of worms/lizzards/ hog/ in the color muscadine. as fish dave said great color.

as for CL trip in summer time. mid july-mid aug. weather is hot and the frog,crankin bite is on fire.

i cant freakin wait....see ya

I didn't read all the responses but mid-july to the end of August has been tops the past few years - day and NIGHT!!! Around the end of August the bass seem to move around more and then the tournament fall season begins and the easy fishing is over!

In a normal year, look toward the last 1/3 of June as having some of the best fishing and least amount of boat activity. Avoid the 4th of July period and there is a major event in August called Boardstock that messes up a week. In August as well, the water color will start changing in some areas that you will not have to deal with in June and July. You really can't go wrong in any of those three months though.

As listed in this thread, these guys have given you good ideas. The morning topwater action is excellent whether you are throwing a frog or a Rico. There really are a lot of ways to catch a bunch of fish during your time frame. I think last summer was off a little from the summer of 2005, I did not have a 100 fish day but when we were going for numbers, most days were 40 to 50 fish days, not bad for being "off". Your average fish is going to be from 2.25 to 2.5 pounds and if you work at it, you will have at least one over 5 each day, pretty good time I think.

Come on up there is plenty of room!

You promised me my Personal Best last summer at CL

...although you put us on a lot of 4-lbers, I want a nine like the one you caught in '05

fishing right next to me, using the same bait and same technique...ugh! (seems like I'm always netting OTHER people's big fish) . I plan on fishing the rally this year, maybe I can do three or four days on the lake this time! That late July bite is unbelievable!

Anytime you wanna come down Folsom way, just let me know. I'm hoping for a GREAT pre-spawn.

...it appears to be a 10", but actually its an 8". I just enlarged the photo a bit to spotlight the muscadine color...

You know that the Rally is anyones game. When you have to fish for 6# fish no one can consistently catch them. We have been beat by first timers out of aluminum boats in the past. So bring it on!
