For all The LMVA Members out there!
I just got off the phone with one of the managers at LMVA... I can't believe its coming to this but we can thank all the idiots that blew past the boat inspections! I can’t say what I really think of these people on this forum but THANK YOU FOR RUINING IT FOR THE REST OF US! Starting sometime next week to launch your boat at the lake you must first sit in 10 day quarantine. Once your ten days are up then you can launch. Once you’re done for the day the LMVA Staff will use a Zip Tie type of tool to lock you boat to the trailer. If the tie is tampered or broken by anyone other then staff you will sit another ten days. I still don’t get why some people can’t follow the rules……

Oh on a more positive note, The LMVA bass Fishing League is just Around the Corner. Ill keep you all posted on date but the start looks like June 8th

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
ZacK you ever stop and think you posting topics about LMVA that the public fisherman cant fish there really care. Honestly that lake has come to what it is because of people like you who post picks of big fish out of there that are caught in the spawn and you posting topics about the bass league. Thats what the LMVA news letter is for. Not western bass. Thats why they have locked it down becaused of people posting reports about the private lake and then trying to put there boat in there and go fish. If you didnt post anything i garuntee you that lake would be less populated. And i love the idea of less trailer boats out there maybe that fishery will become what it was ten years ago when i was a kid. Instead of all these boat that are never out there except for the spawn. I find this whole topic hilarious. Again LMVA is private. The public dosent need to know any info at all about the PRIVATE LMVA. AM I WRONG?
Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Wow do I detect some anger.....
Frankly I am glad to see the info that Zach puts up.
Since I have been working on the Quagga issue for a long while I allways want to know who is doing what about it.

Frankly Ray L you and your worring about the quagga shows how much time you got on your hands. And tallkan i wasnt wining or crying or even angry when you grew up fishing that lake you would feel differently about it. No anger here boys just stated my opinion to Zack.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
my post was to infom people that yet again another lake is being closed / quarantine due to the quagga. have you read the news letter? is there realy any info about bass fishing? I posted the info for the 10 or so LMVA members that surf this site. dont put me in the same class as gate crashers. the info and the league is for LMVA members only. Not once have i posted otherwise. You love the idea of less boats? you need to talk to management, two weeks ago there answer to the quagga was to close the entire like to non-lake boats. the management wanted to close the lake to mine and your boat. but there were given more options. I respect you opion and im not mad.

I believe he said for all the lake members out there. If it doesn't pertain to you or you don't fish it, then relax. He was just passing on some info.
I doubt zach posting stuff is the reason for the decline there. Every lake has a cycle... and everyone who's been fishing for more than 10 years has a ''remember when'' story.
just mo, not that it matters anyway.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Thanks for the update Zach. LMVA was no better or worse 10 years ago. I've fished the lake for over 20 years. 2 years ago I personally saw 4 WR fish that I will never forget....one swiped at my Hudd and missed......unreal sight to say the least! These WR class fish rarely make themselves volnerable considering the small size of the lake (125 surface acres) and the relentless pressure they get during the spawn......I've seen how smart they are and that they have "catchable" cycles every few years, 2 years ago was one of them as I was not the only one to see these few giants visiting the shallows. The lake can do whatever it wants to protect itself....smart move for them. I have 2 boats, so if I'm really jonesing to fish there I can use my one boat elsewhere while in "quarantine" with the other
....perfect!

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
The cycle is probably one of the most interesting as well as important things I've gathered about bass fishing in the short time I've been doing it. Some years they're dumb and others not so much.Gerryjig wrote:.I've seen how smart they are and that they have "catchable" cycles every few years, 2 years ago was one of them as I was not the only one to see these few giants visiting the shallows.!
Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
I knew it was coming it was no surprise!!! For every $$ i make fishing a day at Perris, i now have to sit and wait 10 days to fish the homelake that i can walk to nice trade off huh? Anyone wanna let me use their boat for the next month and a half??? Good luck to the guys living on the lake who now have it to theirselves im leaving you PLENTY of fish to catch!!! I cant wait to run my rental boat~

This is an issue facing all of us, in one way or another, and is just getting traction. We are just on the threshold, and have yet to feel the full effects of this invader. I'm glad he raised the issue, and encourage everyone else to get involved and become educated to whatever level you can.
Sounds like you have an axe to grind... might not be the case, but that is how it appears.
If some asswhipes blew threw the inspection, snubbing their nose at the process as was indicated, then they deserve all the adverse publicity as can be generated. If that isn't the case, then apologies for the "sermon"... don't have first-hand knowledge here and am trying not to rush to judgement.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
chris has fished that lake atleast 3 times a week for the last 12 years.. if anyone knows about the decline of that lake its him.. not the trailer parade that you only see during the spawn.. I LOVE the idea of less boats on the water as well, keep all the people that shouldnt be there off. You say you posted to the 10 members on here.. what about the 50 non members that read it and are now poaching every corner of the lake? If dont think there is a poaching problem you must not actually be out there that much.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Given the current situation with these mussles I think the lake made the right decision. Chris keeps his boat in dry storage at the lake so he would not be affected like the rest of us that keep our boat at home.
Chris is a good kid and he just let his emotions fly a little bit I think. We had a discussion about this a few weeks ago. There are too many donkeys that were able to get onto the lake and maybe this will curb it. We saw too many teen sized fish dead from kids soaking live trout, people dragging caught bed fish around the lake on stringers and a number of things that just mess up the fishery. He is still pissed and I think part of that came out here.
I think of fishing at LMV as a privilege more than anything. It is a great fishery for trophy class fish and there is a need to do anything possible to maintain the lake. Once the craze of the mussels passes I'm sure they will relax a little. They just need to watch the Finnestara(Sp?) launch ramp now...

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Amen...
The little poacher crews soaking live trout have dusted a few trophies during this years spawn.. its sad. Chris and I witnessed a 13-2 being drug around the lake and was killed. There has been multiple instances. Im glad this is being done, its a step in the right direction.
Chris loves that lake like no other, and is looking out for the lakes best interest so the lake he grew up fishing does'nt get ruined by people who shouldnt even be on the water.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Great, now you need a LMV dedicated boat. Buy a beater as a backup without a motor to use as a LMV only boat with just a troller?
They now have a gate on the launch ramp so they can check you over before you can launch... or retrieve. I store my little boat on the racks at the lake and finding the manager to unlock and check me over is a pain and an even bigger pain when I want to haul out.
It's my understanding that every lake with quagga mussels gets its water from the Colorado river including infected lakes that don't even allow boats. Has there even been a documented case of a boat introducing mussels into a lake or is it all just hysteria?

How do you think they got in the Colorado River Chain?

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
House boat transportation, through lake mead. I wonder if anyone has investigated the transportation companies that are moving houseboats from one pond to the next?Kevin wrote:How do you think they got in the Colorado River Chain?
Science and Sense is lost.....
As for LMVA great little lake glad I got the chance to fish it when I could. I thought the big issue on this lake was guides making money off of it? oh wait that was last years s - storm....

I was being sarcastic.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
While it's an emotional issue for most of us, unless there is a release-only policy on any given body of water these folks are perfectly in their right to keep their catch (up to whatever limits apply).
I DON'T advocate taking black bass, and really hate seeing them killed myself, but if taking is allowed then an angler has that right. I'm not familiar with LMV, but from the previous posts it sounds like it is not a no-take lake... I'd suggest trying some cool-headed education for any of those you see killing the big girls, as many just aren't educated on the matter.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Any fish under 12 or over 20 inches is supposed to be released and all fish are to be released March through June. That being said, there are alot of guys who fill their wells up with big fish for prime photo ops later in the day and a few knuckleheads who drag fish on stringers waiting for the camera crew to show up. I was guilty of it as well but that was so long ago i am more concerned with the health of the fish rather then anything else nowadays...... Chris and everyone else have a legitimate beef!!!!

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Well, ya know, that 10 day quarantine can be an excuse to have a second boat, one for LMV and one for the other lakes. If you're a pro (or a poser) you can't have just one! My wife counted 47 rods in my garage and I'm far from a pro... and I only have the one little boat. My son says we need a 'real' bass boat if nothing else so it weighs more so it'll be more stable and we won't get blown around as much.

Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
Nice to see they have a standing slot limit, and an off-limits of a sort for the key period. Sounds like someone needs to take the intiative to enforce them, though... that would be a good start. Perhaps someone could organize a volunteer brigade? Just thinking out loud, but should be worthwhile for those who care?Shawn R. wrote:Any fish under 12 or over 20 inches is supposed to be released and all fish are to be released March through June. Re: For all The LMVA Members out there!
roger,
he is the problem, lmva is going threw a down sizing period. and before that the life gaurds enforced it. the dont do a bad job but, someone with fishing knoledge needs to be there. you dont see fish and game wardens who cant tell you the difference between bass and bluegill. these lifeguards are great at saving lives not fish. those guys were able to drag a 13lbs fish around the lake all day. when confronted by the lifegaurds, they told them they were going to weight it at the biologist office. yet they keep fishing? I personal told the lifeguards to issue a dfi(fine) but there were never issued one. there problem is fishing has a very small budget. they just dont have the resources to enforce it. thats why alot of people use live trout and bluegill.

Understood Dynasty... hence the 'volunteer' designation. I'm sure they'd appreciate if some of the more knowlegable and proactive members such as yourself could put together a group of like-minded folks who could offer up some educational policing, so that this type of issue could be minimized?
If I were a member, or local to the lake, I certainly would volunteer my services to help maintain the fishery.

I can start carrying a cutlass for some board and storm action on those perps. The lifeguards can rescue any survivors... it's what they do best.
