How do I remove old damaged Ranger decals off my older 374V without damaging the gel-coat?
Thank you in advance

Phil,
Use a hairdryer to get the glue warm and the decal soft and then it will peel off. If you use a credit card as a scraper, the plastic is both strong and soft enough to get the edge of the decal off without damaging the gelcoat.

Hairdryer is right on, but you can also spray with WD-40

Have not tried anything yet. I will try it next week.
Thank you all

Hair dryer is absolutely correct, and if needed some goof off after to remove the left over glue, then a good coat of wax unless you are putting new decals on.
Re: Removing old decals how
you can pick up a heat gun from the hardware store for 20 bucks or so that is intended for this kind of duty.
Handy tool to have for heat shrink electircal connection, softening plastic hoses for intulation and removal (such as live well hoses) among many other uses.
Hair dryer will work but might get you in a heep of trouble with the lady of the house.

Hair dryer is a good idea to start.. But purchase some adhesive remover.. it will make your job 100000 times easier with no damage whatsoever to the gelcoat.

Heat guns work great but if you do use one make sure you do not hold it in one place for too long as it will yellow or brown gelcoat. Also do not hold it too close and you may try the low setting first.
Good luck

Hair dryer is a good start, but probably not enough heat. Next up is heat gun, keep it moving.
Another thing I have not tried, but Harbor Freight has a heat knife that is flat like a razor but gets hot and plugs into 110.

yeah for sure the heat gun will get hot. Much much hotter than a hair dryer so be careful not to use too much heat.
I should have mentioned that in the first place

By the way, I wonder if they still make the old decals?

When using the heat gun, be sure to keep the heat away from your carpet. It only takes a second for the hot air to melt the nylon carpet.
Lay some cardboard over the carpet, or even heavy duty duct tape if you are working near it.

Marc
