HDS8 & LCX28

Post by Morgan »

I just bought a HDS8 & LSS-1. I had 2 LCX28's interconnected to share way points. (I bought the boat already configured). My plan is to keep the 2 LCx's (one in the dash, one at the bow, for now as it took lots of sweet talking to get Momma to agree to the purchase). The NEMA 2000 system is the blue connectors. I can see two in the rear under the GPS (1 for GPS, 1 for transducer? or blue power node?) and I can see two under the dash (1 for each LCX?).
So, is it better to just install the new HDS independently, and wait until I can afford to interconnect them?

If I did decide to interconnect, do I need a power node (starter kit 000-0124-69), a red to blue adapter cable (NAC-FRD2FBL), another node for each HDS, then eliminate the existing power wire, yellow wire? Then an Ethernet cable from each LCX?

The LCX 28s use the red/black NEMA connectors. So unless you already have blue to red adaptors and the rest of your network is blue, you are red. The LCG3000 GPS puck that came with them is also red. If it is working right now, then you already have the NEMA network powered by one of the LCX units. The only blue cables you should have are the power and transducers. To attach the HDS unit, you add a T to the network and a short NMEA cable coming from the top connects to the back of the HDS and you are good to go assuming both your LCX units are now connected together. You could also, purchase extra ethernet cables and connect the HDS and both LCXs to to the LSS-1 to share transducers. Lots of options but first you need to decide what you want to do. It's much easier to tell someone how to do something rather than telling them what all is possible.

My connectors are blue and the GPS is a 2000. Image. This is what is under the dash.

The LCX units power the NMEA network through the head unit. If you have HDS units then a power node is needed to get power to the network. If you want to connect an HDS unit to a blue network then you will need a blue to black adapter cable. If you have at least one LCX unit you can power the NMEA network through that head unit.

The way I read your post I would use one of the LCX units at the dash for the Chart and use the HDS unit for the Broadband sonar. Remember that the HDS unit has an internal GPS antenna that is equivalent to an LGC 3000 so it could use it's own antenna and leave the two LCX units connected to the NMEA network. You could also connect the HDS unit to the LCX unit where you place waypoints with an ethernet cable and they can share waypoints through the ethernet network.

Like NoCAL said "It's much easier to tell someone how to do something rather than telling them what all is possible."

Is there any difference between the gray tee with blue connectors that are shown on the LEI accessories and the black with blue connectors like the picture shown above?

The black body tees with blue connectors are the updated model. The grey bodies were the first ones that came out. Find the black ones if possible.
