Frog Rod?

Post by hasetak »

Thinking about getting a new Frog Rod just wanted to get some imput on what you guys are using. I think the rod I am currently using has too stiff of a tip as I have trouble getting it to walk good at times. I have been variouse places and looked at some rods but just not sure how soft the tip should be to get the frog to walk good. looking at 7'6"-7'9". Thanks for the imput.

A Powell 725 or 764 Endurance. Both rods have a great tip for walking that frog and plenty of backbone to get them out of the thickest cover. A 765 is also another good choice.

The diawa's are good rods but like most rods out there it will break. i have two in the fishing room waiting to be sent back. The Lamiglas frog rod is definitely a good rod but is a little heavy to hold all day. A good in between rod is the Irod 744. great rod for frogging and cheap too.

I went with Bobby Barrack's signature series frog rod. It is made by Falcon Rods and available at Monster Tackle this is the best frog rod on the market, designed by Bobby for throwing frogs. You cannot go wrong with this rod.

This is a link to a video Bobby did about the rod.

Go to a dealer and feel the rods. Flex the tip and then decide for yourself. Everyone likes different things in technique specific rods, all rods for that matter but, a rod for a certain technique should be special to you. Personally, over the years I have dropped back to a 7'3" rod. It's easier for me to "work" a frog the way I want. I want a tip for casting then POWER. If you are fishing slop, cheese, or heavy cover, a 6 power is the deal. If strickly open water frogging, you can get a 5 power rod and it has more uses than just frog fishing. Personally, I use a 736C for all frogging and love it. Go pick them all up, play with them and decide.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Went and checked some out today. It is looking like either a dobyns or a lamiglass. I looked @ the Bobby's perfect rod but can't stand the ridges on the reel seat where your fingers go.

All great rods but before you pull the trigger on one be sure to check out the IROD Fred's Magic stick. Its 7'5" and is an amazing frog rod. Fred Roumbanis did a great job in designing it. And it also doubles great as a C-Rig rod, heavy jig and worm rod etc. So for $150 bucks you will be getting a very versatile rod . Pretty hard to beat . But check it out and good luck with whatever you decide on.
