lake mcclure

Post by new2bassfishin »

My family and i are going to lake mcclure next weekend (26th). I've been there before but have never really bass fished it before. We are staying in horseshoe bend. Any info would be help full, colors, types of baits, anything will help.. Thanks

Year in/out, drop shotting 4-6 inch plastic in pro gold, green weenie, morning dawn, etc will get you lots of small fish near rock points. Bigger fish are tougher, maybe spinner baits, spooks early, jigs. There are a few large mouth, and very few small mouth, so most of your fish will be spots. Great place to have fun. Move around often until you locate a school, then fish slow.

My 2 cents worth.

What colors for spinner baits and cranks and spooks? Also how deep should I be looking? Thanks for the responses.

Just white dude. :) Keep it simple. If they aren't chasin then just fish a darthead or dropshot like the guys suggested. Look for mudlines created by wind or boats on the points and fish your worm right in em. The spots love to gang up under the mud. It actually provides shade for them. You'll do good up there. Have fun.

just got back from Mcclure. We fished from noon-530pm and had some luck on dropshot, wacky senko, and fluke but by the end of the day a river2sea white rover caught most of our fish.

btw...lake appears to b post spawn. We did see bluegill spawning, and were shallow in large numbers. saw bait on surface. water was 73-79 depending on area.
