That guy's a pro. He knows he's not going to die if the hooks don't get removed right away, and so does KVD.
He told KVD to keep fishing, so he did.
Laughing is just a way to release tension.
Now that guy has a real story, and scars to prove it. He won't have to pay for a drink for a long time.
