Strike Cam - Delta Video

Post by TJD »

Hi all - Tim Here.

We've developed a unique underwater film technology that attaches to your fishing line. Take a look at our recent trip to the Delta via the link below. Based on viewer interest and feedback, we'll be making additional videos at lakes around the country. We're interested in your thoughts as to whether there would be consumer demand for future videos and/or the camera. Honest, constructive feedback is much appreciated.

Enjoy - Tim.

Thanks guys. Keep an eye out for our Lake Havasu video for some ultra clear water action. You'll be surprised how many fish are around your bait that you never detect. On average there are 10 fish on or near the bait for every 80 casts - most (or sometimes all) of which you never know about until you plug the camera into the PC at end of day and view the video. It's changed the way I fish and my confidence in the areas I'm in. Typically the fish are where you expect them to be - just gotta get the right thing in front of them to get hookups.

More soon,

Tim

Excellent

Well done

It’s good to see this and I have a question for how did you change your fishing?

And it must be a confidence thing to know your casting in the right area and the fish are there looking at your lure

cool video!!

Great question about impact to fishing approach. Best example might be my week on the Delta. The FLW guys were beating everything up pretty good so my first day I drifted through Taylor Slough to stay out of their way. I only had a couple of bites (and no hookups) after a couple of hours, mostly on swimbaits, but kept alternating casts with the camera rod often. That night back at the RV viewing the day's film, I couldn't believe how many follows/short strikes I had but never detected. That told me they were there - and willing to strike moving baits. The next day I went back in there and rotated through several (old favorite) reaction baits. In short, much of the footage you see here was from that second day in Taylor.

As an aside, I took what I saw in Taylor and extended the info to other places in the Delta that might set up the same (given tide, clarity, etc.). The next day I ran directly to Hog and Sycamore (hadn't been there for years) and smashed 'em using the same lures and presentation. Much of that footage is also in the video.

In summary, the camera caused me to reconsider (and ultimately exploit) water where I was - versus running all over the place looking for a honey hole. Saved some gas for sure. In five days I averaged 19lbs per day... not enough to win the FLW event, but respectable none the less.

Hope I captured the essence of your question... again thanks for your interest.

Tim,
That is AWESOME! A buddy and I were talking about something like this a while back... Awesome that you figured out a way to do it...
we're all anglers... you know we want to see more vids for sure.. haha...
Can't wait to see how much vis/distance you can see from the camera in clear water..

Sweet to be able to share just for the entertainment part... even sweeter being able to utilize what you filmed to enhance your skills...

very nice...

Randy

The strike cam videos were awesome. I regularly use a GoPro either mounted on the back of the boat or on a baseball cap mount which captures buzzbait and frog topwater strikes, but no video footage like you have recorded. I have used an underwater camera while fishing a jig on structure and have seen numerous bass look at the jig before one takes it. The biggest problem is water clarity and adequate lighting once I go deeper than 10 feet. What kind of camera and how did you attach it to record the video? I have tried the Looxie wearable cam but the battery life was inadequate, at least with my hook-up ratio relative to the battery life. I am looking forward to more strike cam videos!!!

Another good question regarding water clarity. This does become an issue when filming in certain bodies of water. On the Delta I specifically looked for areas with the right vegetation and tide direction to create the best (relatively) clear water situations. That said, I have some excellent, crystal clear video deeper than 20 feet at lake Havasu (still video excerpt seen here):

As for our technology, our copyright protections are still in progress so afraid I can't say much about that at present. I will say that it's taken about 6 months in R&D to get a water-tight camera with the proper buoyancy and ride to produce a stable video. Keeping the lure in the camera field of view at different retrieve speeds, depths and cover/structure types has been a real challenge. Distance of lure to camera, leader diameter, light levels and water clarity all come into play too. Based on the number of fish strikes/hookups we're getting on film, we seem to have arrived at a good product.

Hope to send out a few Beta test cameras in the next few days with a production launch sometime in July. In the interim we plan to make more videos available soon. We're filming at lake Powell for stripers this weekend... hope they're hungry and not camera shy.

Hey guys,

Thought I'd mention that more than bass seem to interested in our offerings and willing to make an appearance on film. In fact this guy was as intrigued by the camera as the swim bait. Look for this and more in our Havasu video to be released soon.

Hey guys,

Just back from a filming session on Lake Powell. The stripers were surface boiling in numbers so thick you could have walked on 'em. Because of the great feedback received on this WB forum with our Delta film, I plan to release an exclusive sneak preview to you guys later this week.

I be done already but... hard to edit video with sore thumbs :).

More later - Tim.
