NorCal90 event last Sat.

Post by NorCal90 »

Hello All,
I am very sorry for the delay in getting the results from Sat. out to you. Immediately following the tourney we had a X-Mas dinner in Paradise and on Sunday Lesley and I started at 5:00am and planted pheasants for the Kiwanis Clubs yearly benefit shoot. We finished at 3:00pm and they surprised Lesley with 10 Pheasants of her own and planted them for her. It was a true joy getting to watch her on her first pheasant hunt. That makes 2 firsts for her this year, a Turkey Hunt back in the spring and now pheasants, truly a dads dream. After cleaning pheasants until 7:30 last night, I couldn’t even keep my eyes open long enough to turn the computer on.
As for the 2nd event of the NorCal90 season, let’s just say it was a bit chilly Saturday morning. I guess not nearly as bad as it could have been. At 2:00am the wind was blowing 15-20 mph and the sleet was hitting the side of the trailer so hard I actually prayed that 5:00am wouldn’t come, well it did and when I couldn’t hear the wind or the sound of sleet and rain hitting us anymore, I actually expected to see 6” of snow on the ground when I opened the door. When I finally stepped outside to set up the coffee pot for you guys/gals I was amazed at the stars that were out. Yes it was very cold, but all in all it was a great day considering what could have been (oh the Bubier luck)….
We had a bluebird day at the Bidwell Marina launch ramp up until 3:00 when the first boat came to weigh-in, just then a huge black cloud came directly over the weigh-in site and it started to sprinkle snow flurries for about 30 minutes, then just as fast it was gone again.
We had 31 teams come out to brave the weather and 15 of those were new teams to our trail. In the end the all too familiar teams of Ryan Friend/Clint Isbell took first and the father and son team of Mike and Bill Friend just missed the win getting second. Both teams had a really nice big fish (Clint had a 6.38 and Mike had a 4.15) both spotted bass I believe. Ryan and Clint had 13.62lbs netting a total of $1879 while Mike and Bill had 12.96lbs for 2nd place and getting checks totaling $1200 including 2nd bigfish money. 3rd place was the team of Tony Rainey and Kevin Davis with 11.63lbs (All Largemouth- they said they caught about 12 largemouth that day) and netting $769. 4th place was the brothers, Mike and John Saso with 11.48lbs and getting $524. 5th place was another perennial top five team Phil Garcia and Brad Marr with 11.37 netting $310 and the 6th place team of Leo Driessen and Don Frailey with 11.09lbs getting $248. The 2 teams that ended up with the middleman monies were the teams of Justin Evans and James Avalos as well as Ron Gandolfi and Vic Petkus, they each received $130 for 9.76lbs and 9.54lbs respectively.
I really want to thank each and every one of you that have supported us in our new venture and a huge thank you to Chuck Patterson Toyota/Scion/Dodge of Chico for their unwavering commitment to helping tournament fishing on Lake Oroville, that truck we get to use to pull the release boat is absolutely awesome. I hope all of you have a safe and rewarding Holiday season and a very Happy New Year. I hope to see many of you at the Pro/Am in January and if not then maybe February for the next team event.

Glad to see you pulling some boats Jason... I'm sure numbers will continue to increase and you'll pull more numbers as it warms up a bit! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Thank you Dustin, the same to you and yours. I have not a care in the world about numbers. That is the reason we have no TOC, if you feel like fishing then by all means grab a buddy (any buddy) and come out to have a good time. I only want people fishing our events if they want to be here, not because they have to for points. It makes for a better atomosphere at the weigh-in. The cool thing is the amount of people that just hang around after the weigh-in, it reminds me of when I first started fishing tournaments and the competition was there but everyone got along. That is what this is all about for me. There is a group of guys that get together the night before the event and draw names out of a hat to see who they fish with the next day, how cool an idea is that. For $65 a piece, you can do that and have fun and not worry about losing 2 days wages, just my .02. I hope to see you soon and have a Happy New Year.
