Boat Registration

Post by PeteD »

So now instead of my registration costing $5.00 a year it went to $10.00 a year and NOW an extra $16.00 for the Quagga mussell, I thought the Sport Fishing Restoration Act was to take care of issues like this.
Put the screws to us again....?

I don't like the rate hike either, but the fees cover two years, and when you think about it, it's a cheap expense for enjoying your fishing. And you get TWO stickers to put on your boat instead of just one!

With this new sticker do we still need to get inspected at the lakes that require an inspection?

I know the fee is for two years, but if they just keep adding fee after fee people will be priced out of the market to enjoy fishing, Just like creating a depth finder that costs over $3000.00 I will never buy one for that price.

I don't know about you, but I think the $20 for two years that I paid for my boat tags is cheap, and the quagga thing, well someone has to pay the people for doing the inspections, and other expenses, so it comes out of our fees. Can't do anything about it so...at least our boats are legal.

I would never pay 3k for a graph either, but there are alot of guys who fish big tournaments and want the best that money can buy. So they end up paying it. That's why there are many models to choose from. I recently bought two new graphs for my boat. I paid $699 each and I love them! Works perfect for my club fishing.

Let me background by saying I try to be responsible and diligent about keeping a dry/clean boat and trailer. My biologist friends tell me Mead has prolific quagga populations, which we knew and zebra mussel populations below 40 ft.

On Mead and Nevada state we have this AIG tag. Costs $15 annually. Nevada registration for a Skeeter at 21 ft is $40 annually. Can't launch legally without it.

Ran into an AIG rep doing a survey at the ramp back in November and he told me they are going to use some of the funds to install free hot washes at the lake. Then post wash-down you can get your trailer and boat sealed which verifies you got cleaned by an official inspection facility. I suppose if you went to a non quagga area this might help the local inspectors. My understanding is the local inspectors have complete autonomy on whether you can launch or not.

So, in Nevada you pay $55 for ONE year, compared to California where it's $36 for TWO years. Seems like we don't have anything to complain about. :)

Really? Y'all think us being hit out of the blue with a added $16.00 fee is OK? I just had to pay my registration and yea I was hit with that fee, I asked the stressed out who don't give a crap DMV employee when was this voted in by the people ? I never heard anything about it! Of course her response was" I DONT KNOW" , no surprise they never know anything. But hearing y'all say its fair just throws me into a head spin. How is this fair? We have been paying at the lakes, where's that money?

Also have y'all forgotten the about the $5.00 delta stamp we had to pay for a few years ? Do y'all know how much money that generated? Remember no one could account for the money so they just did away with it. And now onto fishing license we pay that fee where is that money going? Next we pay state taxes on our fishing stuff where is that money going? We pay for one day permits to fish lakes like Oroville, Berryessa, etc.. where does that money go? I'm so tired of California politicians dipping into my disposable income account! And still I cant find any info on if we are still gonna have to pay the inspection fees at the ramp like on Clear lake?
