.sl2 files not logging on sonar log

Good afternoon. I have a HDS7 Gen 2 that I bought about 2 weeks ago. Have got out to log 4 different small lakes that I fish. I am selecting the "log all channels" option and am saving to an external memory card. I have uploaded to insight genesis and have used the sonar viewer software and have been able to create maps as well as view the 200khz recordings. Thus I believe I am logging the sonar correctly.

However, in doing my homework, I keep seeing everyone referring to the .sl2 files for viewing side and down structure scan from their computers later on. However, in checking each of my memory cards, I am only seeing .slg files. Not a single card has a .sl2 file.

What am I doing wrong? I would really like to be able to review the structurescan files in more depth off the water, but for some reason, I can't get a .sl2 file to log.

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

I should add that I have the Lss-2 package and can see both down and side structure scan while on the water and have done numerous screen shots. I have the multi screen option running and see the red flashing dots on the sonar, side and down, indicating that it is recording.

I'm not sure of the difference but the .slg files work on Insight Genesis just fine to create contour line mapping of your sonar logs.

I've been thinking of this post from last month and I thought of something I forgot to ask. Chris R., you may have an older version of software in your HDS 7 Gen 2. It should be 3.0 - version 45.2.91

Please check your version in your unit. To do this hit menu twice, go to System and hit enter, go to the bottom of this screen and highlight About and hit enter. Here is where you will find the version of software your unit has in it. If the number does not match the above version, go to Lowrance.com, click on Support and download the current HDS Gen 2 version of software onto an SD card and update your HDS 7.

Just in case you haven't done this. Start with your HDS 7 off, take the SD card with the update on it and put it into your HDS unit, and press the power button. As the unit boots up, it will recognize the update in the SD card slot and automatically update your unit. Follow the instructions on the screen as to when to remove the card and continue the boot up process.
