gps module not responding

Post by mikeyp »

I have two lcx-38c hd units. Both state that the GPS module is not responding. I'm lost, I have checked the connections, both units are running 2.4 software. I can't seem to get either unit to accept the update, I am at my wits end with these things..Any suggestions? Thank you, Mike

Unless I'm missing something, I checked all the connections on the red/gray t connectors...

I had GPS problems, and it was a worn out antenna.
If your units have integral GPS, I am lost (as usual, I know).

Its an external antenna..Talked to LOWRANCE, looks like I'm purchasing a new point 1 antenna and ditching
the 3000.. Hopefully i can get the update figured out.

Other than fishing the wire through the gunwale, the hardest part for me was downloading and installing the software update. The new antenna won't work without it.

GPS Module Not Responding is most often because of loss of power to the NMEA network. Check your power connections, fuse, and if you have your NMEA network on a switch, be sure it is turned on. You will come up against the same problem with the new GPS receiver if there is no power to the network.

To update software.
1) Download/save the appropriate version for your unit from the Lowrance site
2) Take note of where the file is saved. I usually just select the desktop so I don't have to go looking
3) If using a PC, right click on the file and chose "Extract"
4) When it asks to Run or Save, select Save and chose the SD reader slot
5) Once saved to the SD card, insert into the powered down unit
6) Turn on power, it will update automatically

If using a Mac, I can't help you. But the file you get from Lowrance is zipped and won't do the update as it comes directly from Lowrance.

Updates are complete, thank you NO CAL. Still no response from the gps module..I have checked the connections, can't find a fuse anywhere. New point 1 antenna is here and I am putting it in today.. Fingers crossed.. Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

I was searching old posts and curious if you ever found an answer to this problem. I too have been experiencing the same GPS unit not responding problem when connecting my LCX37C. Using same cable that I have when I removed my LMS332... I re-connected the 332 and GPS works wine, unhook that, connect LCX37C and problems.. Still lost
