Swimbait rig ???
Swimbait rig ???
Help me set up a swimbait rig. Give me your best choices for rod, reel, & line. Median expense & up.
Re: Swimbait rig ???
What type of swimbaits are you planning on throwing.
I use 4 diffrent rods and reels depending on the size and type of bait I am planning on throwing.

Re: Swimbait rig ???
Right now I've got mattlures baby bass & bluegill baits that I'm trying to throw but even those are too meaty for a flippin stick. What I'd really like to tool up to is something that will handle 8-9 inch trout type baits for when they start the plants around here.
Re: Swimbait rig ???
I like a couple of rods in that range.
Shimano Crucial CRC-S711H and the CRC-S711XH
Phenix Big Bait Special
G. Loomis BBR 965 and BBR 966 (I use for the heavier Seim-baits)
Its all a personal prefrence kind of thing. Take a look at them and see which one you like
The problem with getting one rod to do everything is that the heavier rods don't throw the smaller baits really well and the lighter ones don't throw the big baits really well.
As for reels depending on the prive range. Calcutta's in the 400 size. Calcutta TE in the 300 size and the Shimano Carduiff in the 300 and 400 sizes all work really good for me. I am actually Throwing Shimano Conquests in the 300 size for the bigger baits.
and the Calcutta 250 for my smaller stuff.

Re: Swimbait rig ???
At the local Anglers Marine Bassathon a couple of weeks ago, the big ticket was the Byron Velvick swimbait rods by Rogue Rods.
There are 3 models depending on the size baits you want to throw...796C, 807C and 808C.
Check them out at www.roguerods.com.
