The last tournament of this years Southern Colorado River Region saw 25 boats take to the waters of Lake Havasu. With a 5:00am start time, a 3:00pm check in time for the first flight and near 100 degree temps it was sure to be a long day. Lucky for the anglers the fishing was as hot as the weather with every team except one weighing in a limit of bass. Including three fish over 6lbs and two bags over 20lbs. The team of Mark Wilkinson and Keith Learn from Parker brought in the heaviest bag weighed all season for this division. The duo from Parker caught 23.56lbs of bass including the day’s second big fish of the tournament, a 7lb largemouth. If that one fish wasn’t enough Mark and Keith also had a 6.4lb largemouth to go with it! The two reported catching their fish on dropshots in the main lake and took home $1830 for their efforts. Second place went to the team of Al Robinson and Craig McCoy. Al and Craig brought in a limit weighing 21.62lbs anchored by the days big fish of 7.38lbs that was caught site fishing. For their limit they received $1255. The Williams brothers of Gary and Mel brought home third place with 17.66lbs that was good for $537. Rounding out the top 5 teams in fourth was the always tough Havasu duo of Billy Skinner and Shaun Bailey with 17.31lbs good for $315, and Shad Berweger fishing by himself came home fifth with 17.07lbs good for $405.

This being the last tournament of the year also determined who was going to receive the first ever Anderson Auto Group Angler of the Year Title. A Special thank you to Anderson Auto Group for kicking in an extra $1900 in prize money and $100 in gift certificates for us to give away to our Top 5 finishing teams this year! This year’s title and a $1000 bonus by just 0.91 points went to the team of Justin Kerr and John Perkins. Keeping Kerr and Perkins looking over their shoulders was the team of Ross Baker and Paul Tassie. Ross and Paul were 4.5 points out of first prior to this event, but just couldn’t get that extra bump they needed. For their second place finish on the season the two received a $600 bonus. Coming in third on the year thanks to their strong finish at this last tournament and receiving a $300 bonus, was Al Robinson and Craig McCoy bringing their days total winnings to over $1500. Slipping from 3rd down to fourth was Gary Pinholster and John Campbell. Gary and John each received a $30 gift certificate to Bass Tackle Master. Our fifth place finishers of the season and two $20 gift certificates to Bass Tackle Master went to the team of Danny Locatis and Andy Becker.

The Anglers also received great news at this event as Anderson Auto Group has once again agreed to sponsor an Angler of the Year payback next season. This is in addition to any prizes that the anglers are eligible for from Anglers Choice. This season with the additional money from Anderson, our other sponsors, and the TOC hold out the Southern Colorado River trail paid back over 92% of the money it brought in back to it’s anglers.

I would like to thank all of our sponsors this season. Anderson Auto Group for the AOY payout, Randy Ernst with ProTech Mats for the $50 first out of the money at each event, Taco Hacienda and Bad Miguels for the discounts for our fisherman on food, Campbell Cove 1 Stop for the “fishermans meal deals”, Days Inn for the free rooms to give away, Pepper Custom Baits for the discount vouchers, and Carl and Sue Mack with Mack Signs for making our sponsor banners. I would also like to thank all the teams that came out and supported us this year. You all really did make this an enjoyable first season for me as a director. Last but not least, a special thank you to my wife Julia for helping me run these events.

Our first event of next season is September 17, 2011. The weekend before the TOC that is being held here on Lake Havasu. See you all then.
