My son Matt nailed this honker on his first shot of the early season. We got a late start on Sunday and there were plenty of honkers around. But they were committed to the center of a clover field and since it was already 8:30 when we arrived...there was really no chance to set up decoys and hunt them properly. So we just set out a single decoy as close as we could get without spooking them and hoped we'd at least get a passing shot when they came in or left the area. Matt knocked this one down as a flock of 6 was leaving the feeding area and came right over.
