Weekend Striper Report

Another successful weekend of chasing the jailbirds! Our numbers have gone down slightly but the quality is getting better. I'm sure if we chose to downsize our lures to traditional offering like 5" swimbaits and rattle traps we pick up way more fish. But, the big glide baits have been addicting lately and I believe they will pay dividends when the big girls get here. The stormy weather gave us both hope and caused some challenges. The water temp dropped in our area from low 60s to almost 56 last night.

We fished off an on, Fri-Sun, targeting the low light hours hoping for TW action. Every trip providing flurries of fish exploding on the plugs. We even had some fish boiling on bait and birds crashing all around us Sunday morning.

Our pattern stayed the same for most of the weekend, fishing fast and hitting small islands and shoals with good moving water. We average 8-10 fish a trip up to 10lbs. I had a shot a two DDs, only to pull the hook on one and a bad hookset on the other. All part of the topwater game, we're lucky to land 50% of the good ones!

Hot lures for the weekend were, 6" DWB plugs in Bone and Shad pattern. Also got a few on the Deps SlideSwimmer 175 in a white pattern.

The run is shaping up to be a great one! With the warm weather this week, they should be on the chew next weekend!

Where the heck are you fishing? We checked the usual spots on the SJ river on Sat and didn't mark any fish at most of them. None.. We soaked live bait on a shoal that had a few marks on it , but no takers.

The upper SJ from Pirates down to 3mile is pretty dirty and not much life. We were fishing south of there in the flooded islands and levee breaks..
