Striper fishing in the big flooded lakes like Sherman, Big Break, Franks, Mandy and Mildred has been very good the past week as well. We had banner days both this past Saturday and Sunday catching schoolies from 3-8 pounds all day long starting out west and chasing em inland to the end of the day. With the recent calm mornings, the topwater bite has come on again from first light until the sun comes up around 8:10a. Then start tossing LC DD 100 pointers and 5-7" WHITE swimbaits the rest of the day. Watcjing yer graphs you will find areas with large schools in deeper holes,16-30', don't hesitate ta drop a spooon on em.The spoonin' bite too is starting ta come back as well! We're finding large concentrations of these schoolies on the ledges butted right up next to the flats!
The bite has been so good, Tony Stoltz and I, fer the past two weeks have been putting together a Delta striper video for Westernbass.TV. And although we have not caught any banner fish, we got some great footage on a variety of baits, techiques and patterns we hope yer all gonna enjoy!
Good luck out there and just keep moving around with em!

Went out this morning amidst the heavy fog and didn't reach my favorite slough until around 9:00A. My buddy and I started to crank 3/4 oz Rat L Traps and caught 9 keeper size stripers and just as many small ones in about 90 minutes. We lost about 3-4 good size stripers that never made it to the boat. The largest 2 that we boated were around 12 and 15 lbs.
My fishing buddy learned a valuable lesson today -- you need a rod with a stiff backbone if you want to control a fish and not have the fish control you. He was using a rod with a medium backbone and had his rod halfway in the water each time the 15 lb striper went under the boat. He almost broke his rod once when the rod got caught in the space between the trolling motor and the bow of the boat. I was in the rear of the boat waiting to net the fish and had to run to the front to lift up the trolling motor. This striper was the biggest one that he's ever caught on a Rat L Trap and my buddy was exhausted after the fight. I had talked to him before about getting a rod with stiffer backbone for stripers but he felt that his rods with the medium backbone would work. After today, he is getting a rod with a medium heavy backbone.
