Posted this in the bass forum, but I am sure Cooch or Rich will know the best answer for this.
What rod are you using to throw the Magnum Spook?? And what lb. line...braid or mono??
Thanks in advance!

I myself, use either the Okuma MH 7'11 or the Steve Biechman Costom Swimbait rod. Both rods mentioned can handle most swimbaits on the market including a 6" Lunker punker or equal wt.
The 9" or bigger in any of the SB Companies you will have to go with a Heavy Model for best result including the hookset.
Braid or Mono>
Braid I use 65# on all my Topwater baits. Reason> With these swimbaits that are out on the market your deal'in with wt, thus, your cast are farther than you would throw say a luckycraft. Being the distance and with braid. Braid has know stretch, percentage of hookup's are greater against mono.
Mono> 20#+ is good enough for most Northern Lake including the Delta. Wt of lure is less in most cases and you are throw'in plastic of some sort.
Reels, Abu Garcia 5600 WS or the Shimano Cardiff 300 is adequate enough. What you most have in a reel I found is a wide spool. Less Professional overspin's LOL!!!!!

.
Above is just a start with not to much expense. You can go into in depth if you may with an unlimited credit card or you fish within your means.

Rich,
Thanks for the info. I thought of putting it on my Okuma, but I have a hard time taking my Punker off that rod!!! I will try it out tomorrow morning! I guess that means I need another 7'11" Okuma!! Bummer.......Thanks again!

Use a Berkely Cross Lock or tie a San Diego Jam Knot. The Knot you can tie quickly and is super strong knot.
Just a Thought

Fish, I'm using a C704DHX Extra Fast that Steve built for me about 4 years ago. It's only a 7 foot rod, and much lighter than most longer swimbait rods, yet it's stout and got the power in the tip to move that big Super Magnum Spook, which is a bit larger and heavier than the Magnum Spook. I git fatigued real fast when using longer, heavier rods. This one fits me perfectly.
