The Yak-A-Bass (YAB) season opener in conjunction with Kayak Bass Fishing (KBF) was held on Saturday, February 22nd. 2020 on Folsom Lake out of Granite Bay. Over 120 anglers hit the water to see who would be crowned champion against some tough competition.

Bob Zhang of San Francisco, CA came out on top with an 87-inch five fish limit anchored by an 18.25-inch big fish. Zhang reported that during pre-fish the weekend before the wind kicked up so he decided to stay close to the ramp and focus his efforts on learning every inch of the area to find the most productive spots. He was able to locate some key rock piles that paid off on game day. He had two main patterns going. When the wind would pick up he would catch them on a spybait as shallow as 2 feet. When the wind would lie down the fish would move down to 20 feet and eat the dropshot. He reported that the water clarity was good with temperatures ranging from 51 to 54 degrees. He caught a mix of spots, largemouths and smallmouth bass to secure the winning limit for both divisions.

Big fish of the day was a 20.75 inch largemouth caught by Shane LemMon of Corona, CA.
