BNT Season Opener on the California Delta

On Saturday, 2/20/21 Bass n Tubes (BNT) held their season opener on the California Delta out of Tiki Lagoon. 18 anglers braved the cold and windy conditions. The conditions proved to quite challenging with only 6 anglers bringing fish to the scales.

Water temperature was reported to be 52 to 54 degrees with mostly stained water clarity. The primary patterns were soft baits fished very slow (even dead-sticking) to get bit. Ultimately, it was the 2021 Club President Sal Castro who was able to secure the winning bag that included a 7.15-pound Delta Tank. Castro reported only getting 2 bites all day long but was able to capitalize on both. He reported that he was fishing a weightless 5” green pumpkin Yamamoto Senko Texas rigged in the tulles. “When that big fish bit he swam underneath me and straight out to the deeper water”, said Castro.

Here’s your top six:
1. Sal Castro – 10.00 pounds
2. Rob Linden – 6.39 pounds
3. Binh Phi – 4.81 pounds
4. Mitch Teman – 2.85 pounds
5. Manny Martinez – 2.60 pounds
6. Scott Bernard – 2.00 pounds

Next up for BNT is a combined tournament with the Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club on the California Delta out of Piper Slough on Saturday 3/13/21. The format will be a random draw team tournament.

Per Castro, they are looking to grow the club. They are offering a tryout where an angler can fish 1 regular season event and 1 open without having to commit to the annual membership fee. However, they are accepting new members and encourage all interested anglers to come give it a try. BNT allows belly boats, U-boats, pontoon style boats and kayaks so long as they are solo and human powered, no trolling motors allowed.
