Light tackle, kayak fishing featured in new event

Light tackle and kayak anglers will have the chance to learn from some of the Chesapeake area's top guides along with author Shawn Kimbro during the first day-long light tackle and kayak event sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland (CCA MD) and The Technical Fisherman.

Light Tackle Fest 2014 is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, at the Prospect Bay Country Club, 313 Prospect Bay Drive West, Grasonville, from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free to CCA members. Non-members can join CCA for one year at the door for $25 or be charged $10 for the event.

"This is the region's first and only fishing show dedicated to light tackle and kayak fishing," said Tony Friedrich, CCA MD executive director.

The day will include five seminars and more than 20 exhibitors.

Seminars are:

"Light Tackle Roundtable" with Captain Mark Galasso, Captain Pete Dalhberg, and Captain Richie Gaines, at 10 a.m.;

"Advanced Light Tackle Jigging Techniques," Kimbro, 11 a.m.;

"Kayak Fishing: The Basics," Michael Bartgis, noon;

"Rod Building Essentials," Joe Capozzoli, 1 p.m.; and

"Kayak Fishing for Snakeheads," Joe Bruce, 2 p.m.
