GRANITE BAY, Ca. - In its original meaning, the word “Kung fu” can refer to any discipline or skill achieved through hard work and practice, not necessarily martial arts.

So, it would be very easy to say that hard-working Shane Peirson, and ultra-skilled Russ Graves – newly crowned 2018 Bass Pro Shops Open champions, clearly have the “Kung fu” spirit, as years of hard work, discipline and practice came to fruition and helped them win of one of the most high-profile events in the west.

“Winning this event means a lot to us”, noted team member Russ Graves, who lives in the greater Sacramento area and has spent many years fishing Folsom Lake. To win on Folsom Lake at this time of year, against a full-field of 100 talented teams, is something we will always be proud of,” he added.

Sabrina and Darin Prociw won $4,500 in cold cash, taking 2nd place, and having the distinction of being the first husband and wife team to ever make it to the top 10 finals!

Team partner Shane Peirson, is for sure on a roll and is definitely making his mark within the western angling scene, as with Future Pro Tour AOY and Future Pro Tour Classic titles, high finishes in Wild West Bass trail competition, and now a “back-to-back” Bass Pro Shops Open victories on his resume, he has left no doubt that he has what it takes to be a winner.

Russ and Shane indicated that they fished the entire lake, targeting points in shallow water areas adjacent to submerged willow trees, and used R2Sea S-Waver swimbaits to catch their bigger fish. For their win they received the keys to a new 40th Year Anniversary Heritage Edition, boat motor, and trailer package, courtesy of Tracker Marine.

Congratulations Russ and Shane - 2018 Bass Pro Shop Open champions!

Many thanks to the teams that supported this 3rd annual event, along with a special acknowledgement of the sponsors and vendors who participated in Sunday afternoon’s spectacular Outdoor World Expo and exciting “drive-by” weigh-in, making the event more than just another “tournament”, but also an enjoyable experience that provided something for every level of outdoor enthusiast to enjoy.
