As advertised, the 7th annual R2Sea Open held on Clearlake last weekend did not disappoint, as a legion of teams descended on Clear Lake - at Konocti Vista Casino, to partake in the annual “Big Party” and sample Clear Lake’s famous early fall bite.

And though warm daytime temps (80's) and cooler night-time temps (low 60’s), helped make this event both comfortable and fun, anglers quickly reported that the bite was extremely tough, and many had a difficult time bringing in the kind of limits Clearlake is known to produce during this time of year.

Capturing the 2018 R2Sea Open Crown was the team of David Homen and Gerry Johnson of Hughson and Modesto respectively, who bagged a 2-day, 10-fish limit weighing 37.35 pounds.

They said they used a variety of R2Sea baits, and caught their fish in various parts of the lake throughout the day.
For their victory, they received $2,500 in cash and two custom River2Sea Championship trophies!

Raising a "Ruckus"

The most valuable bait - or the bait that everyone said they had the most success with during this event, was the River2Sea "Ruckus, a lipless flat-sided bait that most likely mimicked the hordes of shad "bait balls" that could be found all over the lake. Some teams like Ken Cassettari and Jose Juarez (5th Place), explained that they used this bait and other R2Sea baits of the same genre, to get multiple limits within only 2 hours of blast-off.

Ridiculous raffle, delicious food, “Golden Ticket”

The River2Sea Open is more than just another bass-fishing tournament. It is first and foremost a “Big Party”, that allows the principles at River2Sea USA to directly demonstrate their appreciation for the support they have received over the years from their legions of loyal customers.

For at this event - on the final day, over $12,000 in cash was awarded, and over $10,000 in prizes were given away in a FREE raffle, including a special “Golden Ticket” raffle prize (valued at over $8,000) awarded to one lucky team and consisting of 2-Lowrance HDS Carbon 12 fish-finders, 1-Minn Kota Ultrex Trolling Motor, and a custom Hydro Jack Place from Bob's Custom Machine Shop!

Cody Bashore and Cody Alexander were the "Golden Ticket" winners and receive a package worth over $8,000!

In addition, C&C Marine of Modesto and Citrus Heights sponsored a delicious BBQ dinner for all anglers and event spectators to enjoy after the event concluded!

River2Sea USA president Simon Chan, and his hard-working staff, would like to thank every single participant and customer – past and present, for helping to keep the River2Sea Open - aka “the Big Party” rolling on like it has for so many years, and sincerely appreciate everyone's support.

We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s event!

Easy Vince! We all know that between the US Open and BBT TOC it was a tough weekend.

You put on a great event and the BBQ Sunday was unbelievable.

Thanks again for the effort, and I hope to see you for next year's party!
