DFG should ask why they lost that many fish not only ask wonbass and anglers involved with there boats used why there wasn't better care for the fish. 97% return rate is exceptable. In any tournament.

I personally observed the fish handling & weigh in ! Billy & his people did the the best job that anyone could possibly do ! as far as the anglers ‘ they were specifically instructed how they needed to care for there catch ! & although it’s up to the individual pro to take care of fish ! I believe most of them did ! with that much money on the line ! Who wouldn’t ? The problem is “ hot summer temps & low O2 levels are a bass killer !, I think tournaments should not be allowed between June 15 & Sept 15 !, the 6 hour rules doesn’t work !, as far as I am concerned !..

Will bass king you seem to be the expert of tournament fishing can you explain why so many bass came to the weigh in dead. No money for a tournament is worth seeing these kinds of numbers.
It very sad to look at the standings and see so many penalties next to so many names on the Pro side and AAA side. Anglers
You can think what you want but I'm sure they weren't all 1 and 2 lbs bass that died. I would too see how many lbs of bass were in those dead fish.

I fished as a AAA and there is absolutely nothing that Billy and wonbass could have done differently or better in regards to fish care. I weighed the fish in 2 out of the 3 days. Due to the Covid guidelines we had to walk up to the weigh in on the right side of the marina and walk back down on the other side after the weight in. Both times I weight fish, they were out of the live well, weight in and back into the release boat within 5 minutes. Other than weighing in on the dock (which just isn't doable), I don't see how you could do it any faster.

WON Bass normally has this event when its cooler. Covid forced it till now or cancel the event. I dont like seeing dead fish either .Happens every summer .Not just WON .

They could not have had the tournament, which would have meant better fish care. I count 96 dead fish between Pro and AAA. 96! That doesn’t count all the bass that died after release.

The infuriating thing isn’t just all those dead fish. The infuriating thing is that many people were concerned about lots of dead bass ahead of time (and expressed those concerns), and the tournament was held anyway! In the middle of the summer heat. WON had decided that these predictable deaths would be acceptable long before a single boat ever made it to the weigh-in.

Just FYI, this is a shared weight tournament, so the count is "only" 48.

If DFW really cared about the fish they would quit the spray program of the weed beds.
Also they allowed 5 major tournaments in 9 days . which is to many in a short time.

Fish die when it’s 100+ degrees no matter what. What is the deal with the whining and crying every tournament in the summer? The td’s are doing everything they can to mitigate damage. It’s just part of summer fishing no matter how hard you try.

Clear Lake is a shared resource. The number of people who use it recreationally and don't care about bass tournaments FAR outnumber the people that do. So when a tournament descends on the lake and makes it neigh impossible to fish the south side of Clear Lake for fun in the first place (read some of the fishing reports and complaints), AND it literally leaves a trail of dead bass behind (which would not have happened without the tournament - bass "may die anyway" in the summer, but not in this concentration or at this caliber of fish), IMHO people have the right to complain. It makes the tournament scene look bad in the eyes of the larger public.

Other formats (*cough* MLF *cough*) exist and have a proven track record of taking better care of the fish. I understand if somebody doesn't like that format or think it's impossible to implement on the WON level.... or too easy to cheat without an official on every boat. I get it. But maybe don't hold the tournament in the summer heat then. What I'm ultimately trying to say is that there are options, and making it sound like there simply wasn't a better way that this situation could have been handled rings untrue.

I would bet a 1lb penalty would improve things a lot, I very rarely have a dead fish, no more in the 80 degrees water vs 50 degree, just requires a little more time to take care of them properly, some guys just refuse to do this. A 1 lb penalty and they would do better
