National Bass West is at Castaic Lake.
Another tough day at Castaic! Mike Resse and Rick Newton top the field with 4 fish for 5lbs!

What is going on at Castaic??? Was there a "die off"? These weights are absurd. There's some local hammers who fished this tournament. Really though......what's the deal? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The lake came up over 90’ from rain run off water, not from aqueduct water.
The water quality was horrible shortly after filling with tons of debris covering the surface. It was I’m possible to launch boat for a few weeks. Included in rain run off was fire retardants and ash from fires around the lake and water shed. Not good, especially during the spawn cycle.
I fished the lake 2 times during the last 3 tournament time frame and my partner had located bass, we both caught 6 to 7 bass each over 15” minimum.
I can’t share what was working other then saying certain debris mats were key.
My guess is the locals are using the wrong lures in the wrong places, the bass look healthy 2 1/2 to 4 lb fish. Have no idea if Castiac has a big population anymore do to the stripers.
All the debris that sunk will decay using dissolved oxygen in the process, not a good situation.

Lake is full with with the recent rains. Fishing at the lake is good to great just not for tournament fishing,I just recently had a 20 fish day granted only 2 keepers but fun none the less. The minimum length for a keeper is 15" so that explains the low count plus in May and June they close off certain coves to let the bass spawn. Striper and bass are active if you have a boat with good trolling motor to keep you in the game. Please note I fish from a rental.
Good luck out there
