I'm new to this site and wanted to let people know about an event i am putting on. It is our 2nd Annual Northern Cal. Wounded Warrior Bass Tournament Nov. 9-10 at Lake Shasta, Ca. The event will be ran as a Pro/Vet tournament. It is just like a Pro/Am except instead of taking out an amateur you will take out a Vet. It will be a Shared weight 5 fish event and Vets will switch pros on the 2nd day. All Money raised will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. The entry fee will be as follows.
Entry $125.00 50% will go to the prize pool and 50% To the W.W.P.
$25.00 Big fish 100% paid back
$50.00 Vet entry. Vets do not have to pay to fish but the option is there if some of them want to win some money.
On Friday Nov. 8th we will have a Registration ,BBQ and Raffle. The location will be in Redding but it is not locked in yet. Anyone can come out to the BBQ it will be free, but donations are welcome. We will also be selling T-Shirts
Below is a link to our Facebook page that we try to keep up to date, so please like our page. I am open to ideas that will help the event run smoother. If you see something that you think should be different let me know. Thanks, Mike 1-530-310-1454

Sounds like a great event. The only thing that I would change would be who you are donating money to. Wounded Warrior Project used to be a great charity, and they have become a top-heavy organization focused more on fundraising and administrative expenditures than on taking care of veterans. In 2011 they raised $74mil and $57mil went to staff and fundraising, while only $17mil went to helping vets. Their CEO makes over $300K a year, and the charity isn't rated too highly anymore on Charity Navigator. There are more highly rated veteran non-profits such as Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Fisher House who actually put their money where their mouths are, and spend well over 90% of their funds on their mission---Helping veterans.
I personally will never give another dime to WWP---I just look elsewhere now for my charitable contributions, and feel others should as well.
Keep up the good work,
Andrew Lippert, USMC 05-10

Andrew i totally understand what you are saying. I had not seen those numbers yet but i know 3 years ago 85% of all donations went back out. I am totally fine with giving to other Veteran organizations, plenty of them out there. Homes for our troops, Protect Healing Waters and on and on. Next year i planned on picking a different group but because several of our sponsors have already made donations it is too late this year to change. We are doing a 50%-50% raffle this year that is not linked to sponsors so maybe we could take that money and donate to the two other groups this year. I hope you can make it out to at least take out a Vet. I Will check out those sites you mentioned. Thanks again, Mike.

Looks fun. Great cause! I'm going to support this tournament and take a vet fishing.
