My father and I are going to fish the snag proof open this year, I understand the AM tournament fee is $100 and $20 to be included in the big fish pool. What I am unsure about is the $10, $20 & $30 other options, what are these for? what do they cover? Thanks in advance helping out a tournament newd.

In my opinion, it doesn't really matter what the options mean. If you're going to fish a few tournies, ALWAYS get into all the options. It's not that much more but the payoff is much greater at making more money. I'm speaking from experience. Early on, my partner and I only picked a couple of options to get into. Then we were lucky enough to have a decent bag and left all this money on the table. About 5 or 6 years ago at a Castaic nite tournie with 125 boats, we didn't get into the big fish option. There were 120 boats that got into the big fish option. We didn't get into the 20 dollar big fish option and lost out on the 2 thousand dollar option. It happened at a Piru nite tournie also. After that, we always get into everything. It also saves being laughed at if you win an option but didn't get into it.

Ya i get what your saying, I am just curios what the 3 other options actually are? I mean if I am getting into the $10 option and its for the biggest striper or something, I would like to know. This is what the sign up says.....

I see what you're saying. They should at least name them.

The Tournament organizers should be able to give you the layouts... listing it here prob will not get you the answers your're looking for, but in our tournaments, we also have options as well and it's pretty clear what it is, but you don't have to jump in every option there is... Just a recommendation though, if you're already fishing the tournaments, why not split that extra with your co-angler just incase.

In our last tourney, the big fish didn't win the tournament, but he got a good chunk of $$$ to cover the cost of his entry, gas, food, drinks, etc. which came out to be a great day of FREE FUN FISHING!

some guys like to play for higher stakes. These other options just give them more chance to win some money. Not everyone is going to enter the extra options. If 10 people enter the $10 option, the winner gets $100, and so on with each option. Sometimes it doesn't take very much weight to win an option, depending on how many guys get into it. It's similar to making a side bet with your buddy as to who will have the biggest weight, only everyone is allowed to enter if they want to. Someone who enters all the options and has a decent weight could very well take home more money than the winner of the event. Hope this helps
