Clear Lake this week 7/26/2016
Today finds the lake at 3.98 Rumsey and we’re on our way to 3 Rumsey quickly.
Ok, what does this mean? It means that as the lake drops in elevation more weeds are exposed and the pesky weed boats continue to roam the lake. Talk about doing it in the wind! The County of Lake definitely has their agenda, and it's not fish friendly, at least not in my opinion….
Anyways, despite this the bite continues to be unbelievable! Yes, I predicted 20+ pounds would win last week’s WNShootout and it only took 19 to do so. For three fish!
While the fish count was down yesterday for me, my six hour day produced four over 5, three over 6, and a big kicker. All before 11 am. Pretty typical of the quality fish caught here over the past three weeks. I know of a 13, seven or eight 9-11’s and a bunch of 8 pounders.
Everyone is asking how, and where, and what are you throwing? First, I think the key is I’m not in a hurry to get to the next spot. I thoroughly fish an area before leaving fish to find others. Second, all the likely places a jig fisherman would fish from Henderson south. Third, pretty basic jig set-up, but I’m switching trailers when I’m on fish in an attempt to entice some bigger bites. Same goes for my swim jig. So far it seems to work, but it’s different each day. TNT and Bass Patrol jigs in 3/8 and 1/2 ounce are the jigs I’m throwing, and I’m changing between Yamamoto and Reaction Innovation on the trailers. My swim jig is a Ladies Man Custom swim jig in 1/2 ounce.
That said, the crankbait fishing is still going good as well, again, slow down and work your area thoroughly and you might be surprised by what is there after your first pass. Megabass Deep Six, Jackall Muscle Deep, and Strike King deep cranks are all producing.
Good luck out there and remember to hydrate!
