You can't go wrong with a Dobyns 734c in my opinion! Awesome rod IMHO!
Its a 7' 3" rod Heavy Fast Action rated at 1/4 to 1 oz. After you get one, you will want another! Their that versatile.

I like a longer rod as long casts are critical with the Buzz style frogs. I just bought a 7' 9" Heavy Cousins Raze and love it! Enough tip to launch a small frog, but enough backbone to bury the hooks on a long cast and rip fish through tules.

Thanks guys I have 2 Phenix recon elites in 7'6" heavy , but after a day of forcing the lure out there I think for me the heavy is too much for the light frogs and toads. I have been using an old Loomis 6'3" heavy cranking stick that feels good but doesn't give me the distance I want. Have either of you used a Medium Heavy for much ? I am thinking about a 7'6" MH rod of some sort.

I have not used a dobyns rod before ,not sure how the heavy in that relates to a heavy recon rod

The Dobyns 734c has enough tip to cast long distance and enough back bone to pull them out. Its not the kinda heavy that you have been using. Its one SWEET rod, trust me! If your really interested, I would give Gary a call at his shop and he will be glad to answer any and all questions you may have. Heck he may suggest another model that better suited for you. Check out his website too. Good luck and good frogging!

I use two different rods for toads/frogs/ribbits. Both are Daiwa Tatula Elite series rods 7'3"MH and 7'4"H. Med-Heavy for more open water. Check out the specs on this link:

Thanks guys for your help. I narrowed it down to a 7'6" MH but am thinking a phenix recon because I have a couple of them in Heavy and know more about them. I just need a little lighter action.

But I think I'll just pick up a 7'6" recon in mh. I use my heavies a lot on other heavier baits

7'6" MH Recon/Elite for toads
7'2 or 7'8" H M1 for the Sprinker; or try a UMBX 707H
