Blade Baiting

We've had a nice break in the weather this week and actually had a record high for Thanksgiving. Temps in the low 50's in late November is a rarity in Spokane so of course, I had to go fishing. The water is still cold, mid 40s, so the blade bait has been the best performer lately. We also caught a few on a Ned Rig and drop-shot but the blade has been the way to go.

We were fishing fairly deep and as you can see here, the water temp and depth are basically the same.

This was a typical fish we were catching. Nice fat smallies like the one Noah is holding. No giants, but still fun to catch.

Image

We also had perch, pikeminnows and fat crappie crunching the metal. I hardly ever catch crappie on this lake but late in the year they are everywhere out deep with the bass.

Blade bait fishing also makes for some interesting screenshots with all the up and down motion.

We are really lucky to have a few more weeks of the season. The arrival of winter is always a difficult time for bass anglers in the Inland Northwest, so we are happy to have as many extra days as we can. I'm hoping to get out a few more times and the blade bait will be my go-to.

Gotta love the blade bait. I was introduced to it about 3 years ago on the Potomac. It's killer in the dead of the winter for bass. We used it a little on Berryessa the other day and my son caught a 3-4 lb largemouth out of 50 feet. Also hammered on the striper in the Delta with it last week in 20 feet of water. It just catches fish. Definitely plan on using it more frequently in the near future.

Yes, it is awesome. I started using it for winter walleye and got hooked.

honestly not sure. That was my buddy who caught that one. My personal favorite blades are the Biovex Padas and the Bass Pro one.

It does. I'll have to ask and see which one it is. The crappie loved it

Ask him what size he was using, too.
