I have both the split grip and the solid cork Dobyns Champ Extreme 744. I prefer the solid for dragging footballs and longer casts, and I like the split grip for flipping, and shorter presentations. I do notice that the split grip can get caught in jacket pockets and is a bit more of a hassle. Overall, I try to buy full cork because it balances the rod slightly. For me, the balance of the rod is a little more important than the overall weight.
