What are some of your favorite Umbrella rigs, baits and sizes? I haven't really thrown them and would like to try and catch a few on them. Thanks!

I have two I use. I make one rig for personal use but lately I've been buying G-Funk rigs, they're awesome. Lots of options, it depends on what you're looking for and what's legal in your area. Some states limit you to two hooks, some three, and some unlimited.

As far as weights of the A-Rig, I use mostly 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 oz heads. I've made some swimbait heads mostly because of the A-Rig. I got tired of gluing my swimbait bodies to the heads so I made a bad a$$ swimbait head with a 4 barb system to hold baits in place. Honestly, it's best SB head I've ever used and it's not just for A-Rigs. Check out Dobyns Swim bait heads.

As far as baits go, it's hard to beat Keitech swimbaits for an A-Rig. Lots of sizes and body styles to keep you happy. It's great to mix bait sizes on your rig as well. Lots of times I run smaller baits on my "teasers" (no hook baits) and one size larger on my hooked baits.

Got to have a rod too . We get tons of rod questions about which model works best. This varies with how much weight you're throwing. Some guys will fish heavy rigs with 3/8 or 1/2 oz heads for fishing deep. These require a swimbait rod like one of our 795SB models. I personally don't fish the deeper/heavier rigs and prefer to slow roll my lighter rigs for depth. For the lighter rigs I throw several rods, the DC 806 CB which is bigger crankbait rod is a favorite. Another rod that handles most A-Rig sizes is our DC 794 SB. This is a totally bad a$$ rod for A-Rigs and 10 XD baits. You're better off with a mod-fast or a little slower action rod for A-Rigs.

I second the g-funk rigs been throwing them for years. My fav right now is the 8-ball.

I fish a umbrella rig often. I started out with the standard size with bigger baits and didn't get as much action. So I have modified my approach alittle. Lately I have been using the hog farmer mini 5 wire. That rig is built right out of the package with over sized swivels and heavy wire. I use a combo of Keitch swimbaits with the smallest jig head possible. weight wise. I use size 2.8 and 3.3. When the fish are feeding on bigger baits I will use a 3.8 on the middle wire and depending on what the fish want I use either 2.8 or 3.3. Dobyns jig heads are great as Gary stated above. As far as retrieve the fish should tell you what they want if you commit to it and fish it. Hope that helps. Tight Lines!!
