swimbait only tournaments?????

i think someone should throw a swimbait only tournament kinda like the snagproof tournaments they throw up at the delta. It would be fun to see some huge weights and iam sure alot of boats would enter,it would also make for some good publisity since so cali is the swimbait capital, some lake ideas would be perris, casitas or my fav puddingstone or dvl but i dont have a 4 stroke

maybe national bass could put some thing together.

that's a good idea. Unfortunately there are no weekends left this year! We would have to do it on a Wednesday but we could do it.

What A great Idea for Swimbait Nation to put together

Could you imagine if Swimbait Nation put this deal together? They could setup close to the Snag Proof style. Have guys talk about swimbaits, raffles and a swimbait only Tournament. I think it would be killer to see all of the different styles and presentations that one could come up with on the same lake.
Great Idea

This could be done...
If there is enough interest we could do one in north and one in the south.
With a championship somewhere in the middle.

Thank's John but i dont think they will work to well at Nacimiento, still one of my home lake's.I am seriosly thinking of fishing the tournament your having this weekend. How many boat's do you normally draw and what time is the signup and can i fish solo.I dont fish touny's so i dont belong to any org's but i think at this lake i may have a chance of not embarising myself
KINDA LIKE MY SPELLING

I have caught some very nice fish on swimbaits in the narrows on Naci.
Since this is the first one we have had at Naci I don't know what the draw is going to be. We typically draw 50 boats at Castaic, DVL and San Diego so it will be interesting to see how may show up. So far I have commitments from about 15 boats. In the past when I have had 15 say they were going to show up we generally would get 30. Valley Cycle and Marine out of Lemoore will be doing a BBQ for the angler's and we will have some good raffle prizes. I will be taking my boat also so it will be fun just to fish Naci again. I won't have a lot of time to mess around because I am supposed to fish Casitas on Sunday in the WON tournament.
Sign ups will be in the upper parking lot you won't be able to miss me. I will be set up by 3:30 Saturday morning.
I hope to see you there.

You know Tom if you and Mark did something like this I think you should have 1 in the North and 1 in the South. In the north I think you could do Clear Lake and in the south I think you would need to do it on a lake that does not give a real home field advantage to many people. I think it could be a team event and also a 3 fish limit. I also think you could have a championship for the top 15 or 20 teams from the north and the south. Make the championship at like San Antonio or somewhere in the middle of the state. I also feel that you should limit the teams to a certain # say 100 teams can enter. You should also make it a 2 day event.
I think this could be a great tournament. Can you imagine being the The Swimbait Champion of California. That would be a heck of an honor. Wouldn't it be fun to say you beat Mike Long, Bill Siemantel,Joe Uribe jr. or Sr., and so many others so well known for throwing the swimbait.
I could see this as a huge tournament considering all the coverage swimbaits have recieved in the past 6 months.

Hey Pete... Smack Guy upside the head with a swimbait next event... He'll remember what it is then! ha ha ha
I was thinking one in Northern Cal at say Don Pedro
1 in the south at say.... Silverwood or Piru...
Too many guys are too good on DVL and Casitas... Castaic would work, but those darn stripers are killing the big fish bite there!
The championship at one of the following..
1. San Antonio
2. Isabella
3. Santa Margarita
With championship details not released until 48 hours before the event... And we can try and book all three lakes so its kinda hidden!
Just some food for thought!
I also think we ought to do it Pro/Am style... this way new swimbait guys can sign up as ams and learn a little!

Shared weight of course!
Lets hear some feedback on these ideas!

I have heard of people catching them on swimbaits.......but I thought they don't have trout up there? What kind of swimbaits are you talking about?

You guys will have to define ( Swimbait ), just becouse it has a tail doesent mean it is a swimbait. Shouldent there be a minimum on the size of the bait ? After all this would be a BIG bait deal right ?

Okay by definition a "swimbait" is any Premire bait sold on the Swimbait Nation website ( but of course you can buy yours any where!}...No Knock offs!!! With any modification you want...North/South/ fishoff....Clearlake/Don Pedro , Diamond Valley/Castaic,...New Melones or Isabella fish off....2 fish limit per team with only one cull then you are finished and must take that weight and leave the water as soon as the 2nd fish is in the livewell. This opens up spots and keeps a team from burning up 25 fish on their honey hole and gives us soCal boyz some elbow room after the big sticks are finished kicking our collective behinds

...kinda like the way the outdoor games fly fishing competition is run. You have to make a decision to take the fish or put her back in search for a bigger one....makes decision making and confidence a determining factor....hmmmm

Looks like we might try this... I made some calls today and it seems very doable.
I have a couple things -
Premium Swimbaits Would be the following Brands
22nd Century
3:16
Bettencourt
Castaic
Eagle Swimbaits
Fish Arrow
Huddleston
Jackall
Matt Lures
Optimum
Osprey
Rago
Bait Must be 5" minum in Length... Which opens it up for Matt Lures Bluegills and Baby Bass Series...
We may limit the models from each manufacturer... a complete list will be provided with the announcement of the events.
Please email me with any other baits you would like for me to consider for the event..

is for Collins Lake in the North and Castaic in the South. I think this year is almost to late as I would think Feb thru early April would be the best.

You guys sure are missing a lot of swimbaits. But maybe that is a good thing. If you don't know they exist you can't use them... HAHA..... You should not limit what model they can use. Maybe there are guys out there that make there own by hand and should rightfully be allowed to use that home made swimbait.
Maybe they should just do a tackle check as they do a livewell check. The tournament staff can look at the baits to verify there are swimbaits only in the boat, therefore someone who is using a secret homemade swimbait or a imported swimbait not listed on your list can use whatever swimbait they want too....

I agree 100% with this just say its size and a weight there are alot of Big Baits not in this list AC/plugs, BBZ 1, Hand made baits, Z Baits, I could go on and on and I would like to get into this also.
But I don't like the Idea of Castias, DVL or Castiac why not take it somewere were you guys are not fishing every weekend and Lets see how everyone can do on a lake.
I also like the Idea of Rips were its a 2 fish Limit and your done that way someone cann't just live on a hole allday, and this also would make it were you could fish this deal by yourself if you picked a lake with a 2 fish limit.
Just my 2 cents worth

I say we have it in Texas! Nobody is going to think this is fair. Someone is going to cry no matter where you have it. Not haveing the tourny at one of the three best lakes for a swimbait because someone knows them better than another. Seems kinda chicken @#$% to me. We should just go to texas. Then you all will say no texans allowed, that wouldnt be fair. My 2 cents.
