20lbs of Smallmouth

Well, not quite 20lbs, but close enough. I went out to Lake Coeur d'Alene the other day after hearing how good the bite has been and was able to catch five for 19.64lbs. All were smallmouth and most of the bigger ones came on a swimbait.

This was the final tally: 4-2,4-8,3-10,4-2, and 3-2. While I never caught a real big one, each of these were a welcomed sight on this beautiful fall day.

I typically like to throw the smaller paddle tails, but had some good success on this 6" Optimum Baits Opti Shad rigged on a 1/2 ounce head. This color, in particular, does a good job of imitating trout and kokanee that swim here.

As you can see from the picture, the weather was awesome. The trees are fully changing colors and the smallmouth bass are biting.
