Snagging Fish...

My brother and I went out on the delta today(no report but there are all kinds of fish up on the beds) and we were fishing a bed and saw about an 8 with something dangling off her back. Well we get closer and lo and behold it’s a hook and robo worm imbedded in her back. Clearly someone is out there sight fishing and snagging big fish off the beds. Just wanted to say that’s a real a**hole move and I hate seeing that on Delta. I’ve never had anything but great experiences on this site so I like to think it’s none of you fine folks but I think we have a moral obligation to weed people like that out of the fishing community. I just wanted to vent I know there’s nothing you can do and basically no law enforcement out there but I definitely wanted to let everyone know to keep vigilant out there and if I ever see anyone out there doing that I might have a few choice works and an errant cast or two in that direction...

Thast also could have been a fish that was foul hooked while the person was dropshotting and the line broke...but if they did intentionally try to snag the fish I agree you'd be right to call them out on it.

I doubt someone is purposefully trying to snag fish with light line and a worm hook.

This happened to me at Clear Lake a few years ago. It was in the spring and we were flipping tules with jigs, when my line jumped and I set the hook! Got the fish into the boat to find my jig was embedded in the fish's backside! So, don't just assume someone was intentionally trying to snag a fish, could of been a case like what happened to me. By the way, that fish was over 7lbs!

I don’t think he’d fair well on the Delta - lots of people can go missing or worse sea lion accidents.

Who is gonna snag a fish with such light line and light wire hook? Glad I'm not the only one out there who thinks this. Some people just assume anything I guess. Fish often don't inhale bait this time of year they just pick it up and move off bed , that's why fish get foul hooked.

I drop shot with 15lb line on the delta and have landed fish that size without much issue. It was probably a frustrated fisherman that couldn't get the fish to bite so he tried snagging it. Probably would have let it go.

Sounds like the general consensus is that it probably was incidental so I hope you all are right I just hate to think there are guys that snag bedfish for the sake of a couple of pictures on the Delta because I know that most of the guys out here are absolutely wonderful people who follow the law to the T! Anyhow hope you all are staying safe during this time and let's hope they don't shut down the Delta anytime soon!

Fact of the matter is it could be incidental it could have been intentional we just dont know. With that being said what can this group do about it? If you see suspicious activity or have reason to believe there is illegal activity call CAL TIP. If you see someone in the act get there CF numbers a pic or a good description.

I snagged a fish at Mohave by accident bed fishing. I had to wait for a couple hours and came back to get her to eat again. I removed my other hook and bait and let her go. She was hooked like the above fish high on her back could not even figure out how the hook had stuck her were it did.
