Sharing a post from FLW Tour pro Brian Latimer.

Not saying his decision is for everyone or taking any sides. As we said before, it is not the place of WesternBass to police who or how or when people fish. It is up to the order under which an individual falls and how an individual interprets that and how their area is enforcing or allowing it.

This was a message that we hadn't really heard a lot of and thought it would be an interesting discussion.

PLEASE feel free to discuss and debate with respect to others. We will not always agree. That's okay. But, we expect posters to converse with respect. Name calling will not be tolerated.

From Brian Latimer

I know many of us are taking this time to fish more regularly. I think it’s time for us all to reconsider our thoughts on social distancing. Although you may be alone on a trip to the lake I’ve found I expose myself in preparing for a day of fishing. I stop for fuel. I stop for food going and coming. I stop in the tackle shop. That’s not helping our problem right now. It’s not a popular thing to do right now but I think it’s time to park my boat. Our state has recommended the next 14 days. At first I didn’t think Covid was a big deal and it would just go away. I even mocked the disease on a few of my videos. That was so arrogant! I’m so regretful I did that. It’s a big deal. It’s requires our attention even as outdoorsmen. This doesn’t mean I won’t fish but I will park my bass boats for 2 weeks. Consider bank fishing or kayaking to scratch the itch. Perhaps a kayak or canoe is a better option so you don’t stop for fuel. Regardless please remember that this is real and people are dying. It can and will be you or me if we choose to think this is not that serious. It’s not about your rights. It’s about what’s right

I fished Berryessa on Friday. I ate breakfast at home. I made my own lunch. I did not need fuel - but would have stopped if needed. I did not stop at a tackle store as I have more than enough tackle already. There were no envelopes at the pay station for launching so I did not have to touch anything. While launching and taking the boat out after fishing, other boats and people were at least twice or more away from me than the standard 6 feet. I saw no boats that were closer than 50 feet (at least) while on the water. Other than to and from the lake, my partner was more than 6 feet from me most of the time. Boats with 3 or more people were taking their own chances with each other and were no danger to me. I was prepared with wipes and sanitizer if needed. my opinion is that closing all the lakes and launch ramps is beyond reason.

You BASNFAN, I'm suspecting are the EXCEPTION, not the Standard practice of all bass anglers. I commend you on your diligence, THANK YOU!

Fished a week ago out of Orwood with my oldest. He came over, we hooked up the boat drove out, stopped for gas at a closed station. Used gloves and my CC. Got to the ramp paid the launch fee in person with cash (only contact the entire day). Fished all day. pulled out and went home.

We couldn't social distance anymore if we tried. There is no comparison between that and going grocery shopping.

I agree with basnfan. Been to the Delta 3 times since this started. No fuel, food or other contact with anyone. Fishing solo. I'm not a danger to myself or anyone. A little common sense goes a long way

My boat is on a hydrohoist in back of my house. I only fish with my wife. I get gas in gas cans when I need to also gas up my truck since I'm still going to work a couple of times per week. I hope there's not a blanket closure for fishermen. I saw several boats out on the water with groups of people who I really doubt all live together. We come in closer contact with people while we are out walking the dogs than when we are out fishing. I hope there's some common sense when making this decision.

Fishing is one of the best social distancing one can do. Closing it down is nonsense

In the Yuba-Sutter County Area, Dr Luu the area Health Officer has stated that solo fishing is ok. Fishing charters or fishing in groups is not. It was further clarified that is ok to fish with a member of your immediate household. This was published as a clarification to recent directives that stated fishing was not an essential activity.

Other counties may have different directives. Pat's own thoughts are: "If you go out, please observe distancing around launch ramps, docks and pay stations. Lakes that are still open have been crowded, especially for launching and retrieving. Please be patient and courteous and stay away from one another. Launching alone takes longer. Don't take someone with you that does not live with you. If we do these things, hopefully we will not lose this activity we love."

Go fishing by yourself. Get gas with gloves. Keep distance at the ramps. Please ticket people that can’t seem to understand this. Don’t punish people that obey the rules.
