Hot weather and fish care - don't put ice directly in to the livewells!

There are many videos online about techniques to cool your livewell water. NEVER put ice directly in to the livewells. Ice is made with household water that has chlorine in it. Chlorine is toxic to fish and will kill them...in a short time or perhaps after you have released them.

If you have other water treatment chemicals to remove the chlorine/flourine, by all means that will work too. Use frozen bottles of water or the like to keep the water cool.

frozen water bottles work great ! but still use a livewell treatment also ! G juice, Catch & Release” , etc. that will help remove the ammonia that builds up & promote fish slime coat !, livewell vents work good to relieve the heat buildup! and of course! put your air /recirculating pumps on constant! G-Juice works great and does remove chlorine from the water. I am not positive on Rejuvinate...not on their website. Catch & Release does remove chlorine.

Just don’t put the fish in the livewell
I never understood the use of livewells unless you are in a tournament and I honestly don’t like that either . Release them where you catch them . No need to hold em hostage all day in sweltering heat just to get a picture of multiple fish like everyone see’s on their social media . I’m a strong believer in keeping the fish healthy and in it’s home waters . Put em right back after you catch em

Suggest watching Sure-Life video's on livewell management.
Bass go into thermal shock if the water temperature they are acclimated to is 10 degrees different.
The real danger is night tournements when the surface water temps are high with very low DO levels. Bass boats use surface water to fill livewells and at dark aquatic plants stop producing dissolved oxygen (DO) the combination can be very high stress levels in your livewell.
