What a day on the Delta

I haven't been out fishing for close to two months and haven't been on the Delta for four and a half months. I decided to go out yesterday and I told my wife as I was leaving at 9am don't plan on seeing me tell after dark.

I launched out of Ladds and took off for Franks, running the main channel I was headed for the lower end of Franks so I was going through Columbia cut, boat was running good then buzzers went off motor shut down and the boat was swamped.

Now after playing around and making sure the kill switch was in place and trying to start it a couple of time I gave in to the fact that I was broke down on the Delta.

My first call was off to the wife, thinking that just maybe I could explain to her that I need her to take the extra truck key and get my truck and trailer from Ladds and meet me at one of the ramps in Disapointment. Not so, as I feared because it had nothing to do with shopping or the competition cheer that my daughters are into it was alomost like speaking a foreign language to her. I mean how do you explain the route to Ladds or even worse Hoonker Cut when there are no shopping malls for land marks next to them.

My next call went to the one person thats always there to get me out of a jam. Now by no means was this call near as difficult to make as the late night calls of the past to come get me before they haul me away, and by the way at times the though of being hauled off appeared a lot easier then facing the punishment that laid ahead. So anyway I made the call to Dad, now all Dad wants to know is where the keys are, where I'm currnetly at and where I'm going. I got to say at the end of the 3 1/2 hr troll back it was good to see Dad pulling up to the ramp as I came in. Just like old times without the punishment

Now, I tried to get him to out with yesterday but because of chance of rain he declined so it was a lucky day for me. And I'll say it again thanks Dad for being there.

All I want to know is, did you troll a swimbait behind you during that 3 and a half hour slog? Gotta get something out of the trip!

I spent the time chucking and reterving a DD22, 3/4 rattel trap and a swim bait with only one hit which was on the swimbait. My TM was set on 90% power so I was moving along to make it in a timely fashopn. I will say that I learned a few things by watching my graph as I stayed in 8-12 ft of water on the way back.

I guess this is why my buddy told me the other day why he carries extra toilet paper & matches. Sounds kinda funny but when he explained it too me it really made good common since. He said they where both for an emergency , I was thinking to myself "DUH, NO KIDING"..... Then he goes on to explain, that if he where to have motor problems that would leave him stuck on the Delta over night (GOD FORBID) atleast he would have something too aid him in starting a fire .... YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT COULD HAPPEN..... ~MJB
