Crew stealing boats from marinas

***** SUSPECTED THEFT RING *****
Sources have confirmed that there is a crew stealing boats from marinas in Contra Costa and Solano County. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, Lauritzen Yacht Harbor was hit as well.
Here at the harbor we conduct regular inventory checks during which time we discovered a vessel was missing from its berth. Contacting the owner we verified it was not out for service and had indeed been stolen. Reports were filed with the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department and not long after the vessel was recovered completely stripped near Frank’s Track.
Valued at or over $80k this vessel was only 2 years old. Obviously this is a devastating loss for the owner. The boat was in the water in its berth and it is not known if it was taken during the day or night.
Unfortunately theft is an ugly part of life. We can best protect ourselves and our neighbors by taking the following steps:
Know your neighbors.
If you see something, say something.
Be watchful.
Whether it is in your berth or retrieving your boat from its dry storage spot, if you see something amiss or that doesn’t seem “right” let the Harbor Master know.
When out on the water, keep your eyes open for anything that doesn’t seem right and report it. Upon discovering something you think is amiss and ONLY if it is SAFE to do so take note of time, place, description of incident and snap photos.
Stay safe out there and be good to each other.
