Taking the patents down to Clearlake the week of the 26th and was hoping to get the current area report.

How is the smoke and water level? It was getting a bit low when I was last there in August when the fires started. Hoping to launch out of Kenocti Resort Casino.

Normally I just fish Bass but seeing as I’m taking the family I might hit the Crappie as well. Any suggested locations and baits to use and are they biting right now?

Also wondering what the bass are hitting on right now? I never fished with minnows but again seeing as I’m taking the family I might if they are biting on them?

Thank you for any help. I took my mom to a mountain lake last year and put her on her first fish which was some small trout so I’d like to get her on some bigger fish this time and I’d really appreciate any advice.

Sorry I don’t have any Clearlake tips but I never met a crappie that didn’t love a live minnow

Daughter and I fished last weekend. Normally we fish jigs but the hot bite for numbers was a drop shot although our biggest came on jigs (Marks Puff Ball). Up north fifth street is a good launch, Konocti is iffy and be careful of not going off the ramp at county park. Don't know about the south end but skip Lucerne. Oaks and Redbud should be OK. State park had to go out on the trolling motor. Trick is to kep moving until you find them. Crappie bit seems good. You might want to pull up the Record Bee site and read Terry Knights article.

I use to fish the rocks around Jago Bay with red and white mini jigs. You'll find them along any shoreline that has tules.

Used 4-6 lb test line on my drop shot rig. You can float them using a bobber, jig them, or cast and retrieve.

Don't be surprised if a bass hits the mini jig. Caught a 3lb bass on the mini jig and 6 lb test. It took me almost 30 minutes to bring it to the boat. Best fun that I ever had!!!

When it finally cools off the crappie bite gets better. Thanksgiving thru the winter
