Tough day the day before the hurricane but 37 is 37 fish

I know that finesse fishing isn't popular when it comes to bass or any other hefty fish species, but when fishing is tough you got to adapt - especially in the small lakes I fish in summer. Heck, 46 fish a few days ago and 37 fish today are still fish in the boat, though do include panfish and a 2lb catfish. Better yet is confirming various lures that work and the locations that have the highest probability for catching fish. The 2 lb catfish gave one hell of a fight and I consider nice size crappie and yellow perch trophy fish seeing as old they are.

Too bad I don't eat fish - this one and 9 others like it would make for one heck of a fish fry!:

...and this perch:

But one really memorable event happened recently. I was using my Claw design grub and caught this bass:

Mono was coming out of its mouth attached to something deep in its gullet. I pulled and out came a wacky rigged stick and a swivel:

Gotta say I didn't expect that! The fish I assume swam off to fight another day.

So much for the hurricane forecast or even a tropical storm. At most a light rain and no wind.
Interesting observation yesterday as I was coming in. A guy using a Texas rig soft stick and 2 females were going to transport their kyaks but decided to fish a bit offshore. I asked the ladies how they did and not surprising they go no bites. He had bought them rod & reel setups with mono and T-rigged 5" sticks. Being newbies there was no way they would know what and where to use those large lures in this particular lake so I offered to show them finesse lures and how to use them. None caught anything afer 3 hours.

He must a thought I was up to something (not knowing I find a bunch of tattoos on women a turn off), but a decent day of fishing had me feeling generous. I gave the ladies some jigs with lures rigged and told them where and how to use them. Since he knew the value of braid I suggested they put on 30' of 8# test braid leader for better lure action, strike detection and hooksets.

Too bad I won't see the look on their faces when they catch fish and their boyfriend not as he pounds the shore with T-rigged sticks. But hey, panfish and smaller bass are better than no bass.
